Hhaha oh god I had to live with that

Hahah some of my friends get pissed off too...so this is what i've figured so far

Chinese- Mainland China
Chinese Taiwanese- Ethnically Chinese in Taiwan
Taiwanese Taiwanese - Ethnically Native to Taiwan and are usually a LOT darker than Chiense

in the end though they are all ethnically chinese. its like trying to argue that Iraqs and Jordinans and Syrians and Saudis are not arabs :p

Now in my opnion though...yeah taiwan belongs to China :p

but either way I can't wait for all the Pro-Roc and Pro-PRC to come run in and nuke us all to hell

edit

amol i'm amazed someone could confuse a indian for an Iraqi. I'm iraqi and even the most dark iraqis can be confused to be seen as mexicans at first glance (tell you bother to compare the two and start to notice the differents :p ). Hell I'm light skineed and everyone i meet immediately thinks i'm mexican, and since i took spanish I can usually converse for a little ;)

But as for Indian and Pakistani...I can see that. Remember, when "India" and "Pakistan" were created huge migrations of Hindus and Muslims to each country occured so I'm not suprised at all if you could be confused.

They didn't have to grab it back.

but basically, this is like the United States, except Taiwan hasn't gained their independence yet right? So would this be like calling an American "British" before the revolutionary war?

Actually native Iraqis are not Arabs. Native Iraqi being kurds and those who decend from the sumer people, and akkadians (Chaldeans and Assyrians).

i reply with several different things, all not suitable for OT (belong in P&N)

Plus, China can't afford the enormous investment it would take to invade and occupy it. Just look at how powerful the US is, and how much $$ Iraq is costing us. I'd have to think that, after 50 years of freedom, the Taiwanese would fight to the last man to defend their freedom. Plus, the Chinese know that invading Taiwan would make them an enemy of the entire free world.

So since the us invaded Irak and afganistan that would make then an enemy of the entire free world? ;)

first of all, they all look the same!!

second of all, they take too much insult into it . . .

whenever someone calls my pakistani, i correct them, in a nice way, that i'm indian . . .

well i get that a lot too.. Although, when i went to milwaukee, a guy came up to me with a knife and asked me if i was Pakistani or Indian.. told him i was indian and he let me go..Now thats when being confused for a pakistani can be a disadvantage... ;) ( no offense to the pakistanis... )

Although, it is understanble for people to get confused... I cannot distinguish between the Chinese, Taiwanese and the Koreans.. They all look the same to me..

Oh you just stirred up a hornet's nest son.

Technically , no it is not a seperate country. Taiwan is not represented in the UN, most countries do not have an official Taiwanese embassy because most large countries do not recognize it as a independent nation.

However, it might as well be since Taiwan is completely autonomous from mainland China.

so would it be different if people politely corrected you that that person is taiwanese?

After all, you pakistani's and indians all look the same

well yeah

whenever i accidentally call a taiwanese person chinese, they blow up and start chewing me out

whenever someone calls me pakistani, i say, "i'm indian, not pakistani"

i blow up when people call me iraqi or afghani . . .

EDIT: or beloved patriot . . . its different when someone says "pakistani" or "beloved patriot" . . ."beloved patriot" usually means an insult

It's surprising most people would assume pakistani instead of indian. It was my impression there are way more indians in america

i'm chinese and chinese/taiwanese really do look exactly the same (probably cuz most of them are from the mainland)...as for the rest of the asians they look different (usually)

All chinese taiwanese people are from the mainland, no? The native taiwanese definately look different, but seems to me like there's no difference genetically between chinese mainland people and chinese taiwanese. Around my area (Vancouver) a lot of Taiwanese people call themselves Chinese anyway. Guess it's probably because they're really Canadian and not really absorbed in the dispute.

Wrong. Not at all. Taiwan has their own army, own language, own constitution, own government. They are a sovereign state. Therefore by definition, THEY ARE THEIR OWN COUNTRY!

Taiwan doesn't have its own language. Taiwan's official language is mandarin, same as China. And their native dialect is one of many dialect from China's diversed cultures.

tiawan is just waiting untill the political situation in china lessons even more. they have an agreement with china on 3 stages of how tiawan will rejoinchina. so since tiawan itself has agreed to such a thing i would have to say it is not 100% its own country. but with its own military, government and institutions it acts like one. btw, the economic ties between china and tiawan are so great that it would be foolish for china to invade tiawan for reasons of pride. as long as the status quo stays nothing will change. but if tiawan declares independance it may try to invade, although im not sure they have the ability to sustain a full amphibius assault. whatever you opinion, a full assault against taiwan who would be using american weapons would not be over soon, and it would be costly. especially economicly. it would severly curve china's economic development. and when your opperating under a one party government this is far too big a risk to take. always look for those in power to protect themselves

Taiwan is part of China. As a single nation, they're stronger anyways and I'm all for it if China invades.
