You must be the other guy that liked The Thin Red Line.

Hm, I thought for sure I was the other guy, as it is in my top 10. Also, martin scorsese consider(s/ed) it one of the ten best movies of the 90's.

I just saw the Thin Blue Line, completely unrelated but nonetheless astonishing film.

SPR is definitely a pillar in the genre of war movies, but it is not the best, but not for lack of quality.

Most historical events are composed of such a large and rich variety of content that simply crowning one film based on the subject as superior to all others remediates the portrayed event only to what that movie focuses on.

SPR to me was the greatest portrayal of the chaotic.

Great list. I really liked BHD.

EDIT: I just remembered Das Boot.

Definitely windtalkers.

Oh, you said which is best. I thought you said what's the biggest piece of excrement to ever be shat onto the silver screen.

Were all forgetting probobly the best movie of all...In the ARmy Now (/w Pauly Shore) best wartime movie evar 😛

actually i am more inclined to say The Green Berrets or the Dirty Dozen...maybe dont show war as well but glamorize it pretty nicely 🙂

If you haven't seen it, try to find a copy of A Midnight Clear. It's an excellent movie, although hardly anyone has seen it.

I'll agree that BoB beats just about everything else out there, just for the sheer amount of footage. What I find funny is that From the Earth to the Moon (also one of Hank's pet projects) wasn't nearly as good. I had very high hopes, but there was something missing...

Tangent: Blackhawk Down was good, but the story was changed drastically from what actually happened (read the book - it's excellent). The movie did a decent job of telling what happened, but they changed several key details for no apparent reason.

Keep the list going!

I'd say it's ONE of the finest but not THE finest.

Edit: And BoB is not fvcking movie, people! MINI SERIES... damnit, so how can you say BoB is better than SPR? For me, BoB is the best mini series ever. SPR is the one of the best war movies.

I've read it and I didn't think they changed that much. The biggest thing they did was some character swapping with Eversman and DiTomasso, but that was done so they would have one character that was present for some key scenes.

The title of the thread says "FILM." Not movie or series. I think BoB can be classified as a series of FILMS.

I like SPR and BoB, but I like some classics too. One of my favs is Kelly's Heroes.

There is no "best" when it comes to film and art. It's all subjective.

If we can call Band of Brothers a movie then that would be my vote for best. Much better than Private Ryan.
