So you're ok with imperialism so long as it directly affects a country?

As long as there is an immediate affect, yes.

Some minimal or very slight affect, no.

Your neighbors down the street yelling at each other does not mean you can ask walmart not to sell to them.

So now you're back to supporting imperialism again despite previously saying you didn't. You're just going in endless circles. Do you even know what you're trying to argue anymore?

What do you do when your neighbors down the road get in an argument?

Do you go to the local grocery store and ask the manager not to sell to couple? Maybe ask the store manager not to sell to the man or the woman?

You probably never do that do you? Because it is none of your business.

But if your neighbors are in your front yard screaming at each other, you might call the police. Why? Because it directly affects you.

If I saw someone down the street assaulting another individual, as it is in this case, I would call the police immediately.

Again, earlier in this thread you came out against imperialism. Now you support imperialism. Make up your mind.

Are you going to talk to the grocery store manager, maybe the gas station manager, ask them not to sell to the couple?

You going to isolate the couple? Drive a wedge between them and yourself?

You sir, are a flat out liar.

And you are ignorant.

One day Russia and China are both going to get tired of the US sticking its nose into their business.
Sticking its nose where it doesn`t belong is a Russian specialty. Also Russia indirectly created CIA,the USA were quite happy to be left alone in their hemisphere doing business, the thing they do best.

He's a sleeper agent trying to cause unrest in the American proletariat.

And you are an ignorant troll.

What happened in Crimea and the Ukraine is none of our business.

Russia will drop the dollar after these silly sanctions have run their course. Winter is just a few months away. When the people of Europe are unable to heat their homes, they will go crying back to Russia.

Ukraine seceded from Russia.

The Confederacy seceded from the United States.

So please explain what the difference between Putin and Lincoln is? Well I mean other than the fact that Putin has only taken back part of the Ukraine.

The Ukraine, you stupid git, was a founding republic in the USSR. It was already an independent state separate from Russia (1917). That union (USSR) ended in 1991.

"In 1922, Ukraine and Russia were two of the founding members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and were the signatories of the treaty that terminated the union in December 1991."

You calling someone else a troll is the funniest thing I've heard in at least 5 minutes.

Ok, I've stopped laughing. Continue with your shoveling.

Russia seeks safe haven in gold, away from dollar and euro
Russia is taking steps to ensure that it protects itself from any future dollar or euro sanctions. Moscow boasts the world’s 5th biggest foreign exchange reserves and the 6th largest gold reserves. In total, the assets amount to over $1.5 trillion.

Where are they getting the $1.5T figure from? All of the numbers that I've seen indicate that Russian had less than $500B and they were drawing that down to pay for their Crimea adventure.

You will be crying in a few months.

When the people of Europe can no longer heat their homes, cook their food, and their fingers are numb from the cold, they will forget all about those Russian sanctions.

Sanctions? What sanctions? Please turn the gas back on.

Or better yet, when Russia demands payment in gold and silver.

Maybe you and Stewox should get together for a play-date. You could invite nehalem and he could bring you each your own toaster. I'm sure the six of you could have a grand old time.

You seem uptight. You should try to enjoy life more, maybe take some laxatives.

Do you not realize that Russia needs Europe far more than Europe needs Russia?

You're still just arguing in circles.

Funny I spoke about this exact thing happening a few months back. Tons of OT hoppers called me a conspiracy theorist. Funny how anything that conflicts with western media is apparently a conspiracy theory.

I'm hoping they ramp up the sanctions just because I want to see what happens. We're already starting to see some blowback from sanctions:

Apparently London and New York real estate prices are propped up by international criminals. Who could have seen that coming? When I think of London, I think of a city totally not infested with criminal bankers and Russian oligarchs.

It gets even more interesting when you see articles like this.
Newsweek tries to blame Russia for the coming financial meltdown
I guess that makes sense. Why are record high numbers of Americans on food stamps? It's because Putin invented a time machine, he went back in time, and he ran our economy into the ground. It was Putin who manipulated interest rates down to 0 and encouraged American companies to de-capitalize themselves by taking on debt to pay dividends to shareholders. It was putin who encouraged the NSA to destroy American technology companies by forcing foreign governments to ban the use of American products for security reasons (link).

The fact that Putin owns a time machine is deeply concerning. If he controls our monetary and government policies, think of what else he controls. For all we know, it might have been Putin who gave the fake information to invade Iraq. It might have been Putin who forced Bill Clinton the free trade agreement to ship US manufacturing jobs to Mexico. It might have been Putin who put our entire country on an adjustable rate mortgage by financing government debt with short term bonds instead of 30 year bonds.
Now Putin is using his time machine to crash the London real estate market. Then Putin will use it to crash the stock and high yield credit markets. This guy clearly needs to be stopped, but how do we stop someone who can go back in time?

There is only 1 man who can fix this.

Uhmm, the problem of foreign people buying real estate in London and NYC has long been known to be a problem. It is considered such a problem that London has and NYC is considering a special tax to discourage it.

If sanctions are causing fewer Russian oligarchs to park their money in housing they don't use that's a feature, not a bug. Even better!

Also, I suggest you read the Newsweek article more closely. That's not what it's saying at all.

Who cares if Russia stops using dollars? That's the whole point of the sanctions against Russia. Kicking Russia out of the SWIFT system is intended to stop them from using dollars.

Now there's a smart move. How do you protect yourself against a currency issued by a completely bankrupt western nation? Invest in a currency issued by a completely bankrupt eastern nation!
January 2012: 77 yen per US dollar
Today: 102 yen per US dollar, a devaluation of about 25% (Abenomics ftw)
And how well has that helped Japan's balance of trade? Absolute disaster. For a reason that is completely unknown to top Keynesian economists, devaluing a currency by 25% makes imports more expensive. This is similar to the ancient riddle that Keynesians have yet to solve: why does it take 10 dimes to buy $1 worth of oil or uranium (Japan is a huge energy importer), but it takes 20 nickels to buy the same $1 item? Why is the nation suddenly poor when all of its dimes are converted to nickels?

I hate on our government all the time, but at least I can say we're not Russia or Japan.

What a poorly written post. Japan's deficit is increasing because they've shut down all their nuclear power stations and rely on imported oil and gas. This is common sense. Abenomics is actually working. The only thing that's causing a reversal of fortune is the doubling of the national tax and these imported energy bills.
