oh 😱
but the twice for a period is still 2 keystrokes as opposed to 1 if they would dedicate it to a widely used char.

I type retardedly fast on my tour FOR IT BEING A PHONE. This isn't a computer, I'm quite happy with it's keyboard.

This. I was typing on my Tour the other day and my buddy was in awe of how fast I was puttin words down...he said it looked like they were "just appearing out of nowhere".

That aside, I got the tour the day it was released after having the storm for a while (and hating it). The first generation tours seem to have bad trackballs...I just got verizon to send me a free replacement tour so hopefully i won't have any problems with the replacement.

still doesn't explain why they think $ warrants having its own key.
what gets used more, $ or . ?

After spending a few weeks with a blackberry tour, now that I'm back on the G1 (which has a dedicated period key) I've found myself still using the double-space-for-a-period shortcut. Considering I still use the old school two spaces after a sentence, it works seamlessly.

Fail. I went from a Pearl to a G1, and after a few months with the G1, I had to get rid of it. Everything about that phone was a huge let down. I hated it so much, I paid full retail for a Bold.

They follow the old school rule of: 2 spaces end a sentence.

but sometimes you're not typing a sentence and it's not as intuitive.
say you're typing a release of software version 6.5.4.1.23.
it would be so much easier with a dedicated . key.

Just hit the alt key real fast then hit the M...its not really that hard.

again, what's faster?
i never said it was hard.

why does a key that gets much less use get its own key? does not make sense.
that's the reason behind the rant thread.

actually, that's a bad example because my finger would be on the alt key to hit the numbers anyway.

seriously.

Blackberry was originally intended for business users. I use the $ constantly, sometimes far more than the .

How come? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I really don't understand what the camera has to do with it. 🙂

There are lots of workplaces or government facilities which you can't enter with a camera. Camera-phones and webcams on laptops included. That's why there are many phones that you can order specifically to have no camera.

My mom has a new blackberry. It's broke twice. Those things are piles of crap to use too. She doesn't really like it and I can't stand it. (she owns a large business). I'm sorry but those things are massively over rated. Maybe they were good back in the day when there was no other alternative or anything to compare to.

My brother has an I-phone. Million times better and more reliable.

Disregard this post. It is 100% wrong.

The $ is also a shortcut for the speakerphone...which I kind of like when I'm driving as I hate those friggin bluetooth things that stick out of your skull...

But I see where you are coming from. I suppose they could switch the period with the $ sign, therefore making the period a standard key and making the money sign a key where you have to press "alt" to have it appear. I wouldn't mind that...

I use a better solution.

Got an aftermarket cd deck with bluetooth, and pair the phone to it. It's amazing.

Yes, the inclusion of a symbol on a 1/10" key on the keyboard of a mobile device makes the collective intelligence of a multi-billion dollar company retarded.

It freezes on me, restarts, the touchscreen is horrible.....but my biggest issue with it is that nothing is compatible with it. Etrade blackberry app....not compatible with the storm. Yahoo fantasy football app, not compatible with the storm.

My old blackberry (8800) was great. I loved the trackball and the feel of actual keys.

My next phone will be an iphone. I think I'm done with blackberry.

Don't do it! Get a Palm Pre instead!

(former iPhone owner, now Pre owner who has to use a BBerry Storm for work).

Pre>iPhone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Storm

businesses, financial companies perhaps make heavy use of it.

My biggest problem with the storm is that it constantly freezes for several seconds when i'm typing/internet browsing. Makes doing anything other than wasting time on it pointless.

When did the new version of Tours come out? I got mine a couple months ago and the trackball does seem a little funky sometimes.

Yeah, pretty much my experience as well.

😕 Such as? I've had the phone since launch last October and have no major issues. Its not perfect, but really, no phone is.

The most glaring thing is the lack of Exchange support, but that is cured either via a 3rd party application in the android market, or via flashing the phone with a custom ROM. The keyboard is probably the best I've ever used on a phone, it has a great mix of both touch and button/trackball input, solid web browser, tons of apps in the market....

In the long run I find myself needing "." pretty rarely. If I am emailing and entering something like 12.10.8.6 I just do alt > shift which will show "NUM ^" in the corner. That makes the M a period. so 12 m 10 m 8 m 6 = 12.10.8.6

Unless your creativity involves words.

I can type better and faster on a virtual landscape keyboard then a physical portrait one. I much prefer the bigger buttons for my large fingers. A physical landscape is the best, but no Blackberry has one. So I would take the iPhone KB over any BB, their one landscape offering in the Storm is HORRIBLE to type on.

So you base all your Blackberry purchase decisions off of owning the worst Blackberry?

Good luck with cell phones in the future, Brah.
