is poutine crack?

I had it in Montreal when I was there mid-June and it was ok. Of course I had it at some diner, not one of the famous poutine places but I was not impressed. I love gravy fries so I thought this would be an improvement. Not really. The curds make the whole dish too salty. I want to try other versions though.
