Did I miss something? Are you talking about Yankees as in north of the Mason-Dixon or the baseball team. If it's the former then Union might be a bit more accurate. And to be historically accurate Lincoln made it clear that if he could keep the US intact without emancipating a single slave he would do so.
I think most reparation-proponents are FOS . . . BUT considering blacks have the worst schools (and school performance), get the waste-treatment plants and landfills planted in their backyards, and less than 40 years ago were still being lynched by the car load for trying to REGISTER people to vote . . . I can understand being a little pissed considering they never got their 40 acres and a mule.

Expecting people to appologize for things they weren't resposible for is DOWN RIGHT RIDICULOUS. Furthermore, expecting our generation to CONTINUE to remember it is also a bit of a stretch. We aren't asked to remember stalin's purges, manifest destiny (even worse "white mans burden"), the crusades, etc...
Most people make it through a single post without contradicting themselves. The Papacy and governments derive their authority from their history. But they are notorious for not facing up to royal fudge-deals in a timely fashion. This thread is supposed to be about Palestine so what position would Israel be in if Britain, US, and UN treated them like we are currently treating Palestine. There would not be an Israel. Those civilian Vietnamese executed by Kerry, the Vaticans duplicity during WWII, Hoover's FBI, Jim Crow laws are all examples of state-sponsored evil that were often openly committed, covered up for political necessity, then admission on the altar when it can no longer be denied. Your generation I assume you're Y to be that simple (I'm X) doesn't know b/c we do a terrible job of teaching history . . . along with science, math, english . . .
Someone from your generation will assume mantles of authority in the future. So are you trying to tell me it's beyond your ability to thoroughly evaluate anything that happened before MTV? Unfortunately, we already have that kind of myopia in government. In the case of American history you must remember the genocide of millions of natives (your history text will likely refer to it as colonialism and manifest destiny) and you must remember the millions of slaves killed in the middle passage and lifetimes/generations of inhumane, uncompensated servitude. Our country is still great and the best current place in the world to live but our history is our strength . . . the good and the bad. We are strong b/c be are willing to admit and correct our mistakes not in spite of them.
