Robocur has to answer one question and one question only.

Why do the FX processors from AMD come with upward unlocked multipliers if overclocking is illegal. Why would AMD offer an avenue to overclocking their processor and sell it as a feature distinguishing it from other products in their line if overclocking was/is illegal? What other reason would AMD put an unlocked upward multiplier option into their cpu?

Just answer that question. I am not flaming you or calling you names. Just answer the question. Straightforward.

Oh this one is easy...

Per the AMD website...

Q: What are the key features and benefits of the AMD Athlon 64 FX processor?

A: The AMD Athlon 64 FX processor is based on AMD64 technology, which provides:

Performance:
Outstanding performance with today?s software and for 64-bit applications, enabling an immersive and cinematic computing experience.
HyperTransport? technology for increased bandwidth and reduced I/O bottlenecks.
The industry?s largest on-die cache memory system for desktop PCs.
Integrated DDR memory controller for increased performance on memory-intensive applications.

An unlocked clock multiplier enables knowledgeable users to exceed the default frequency of the processor at their own risk.

Security:
Enhanced Virus Protection when enabled by the Windows XP Service Pack 2 for protection against certain malicious viruses like MSBlaster and Slammer
Investment Protection:
Seamless migration path for today?s 32-bit software to 64-bit software

You may all return to threads that may produce something more useful.

Well sure. And a loaded gun enables you to kill another person. But that's not legal, at least most of the time. :p

Now, in reference to your final statement - yes, let's all head to the Off Topic forum!!!! Oh wait....

I could also bludgeon someone's head with an Intel or AMD processor. The use of the processor is irrelevent. The act of arbitrarily smashing someone in the head to death is the crime.

"Final Answer", Overclocking is ABSOLUTELY not illegal !!. As previously posted, you buy it, you own it. EVEN if the CPU burns up, you can still ask for service under the warrenty and you will have done nothing illegal. Manufacturers have the right to refuse, if they can actually show that you violated their terms and conditions.
You all can debate this for ever but the law is the law.
