One thought I had was that framing the poll without a opinion invites people to choose the renewable option..somehow

is it a trick question because the term resource implies utility and rate of use

in this respect the yes branch are wrong...

on reflection the poll is flawed because it should be couched in a manner that makes the user decide whether resource depletion is a issue when comparing oils rate of use vs rate of creation

Pragmatically/Scientifically it's not.

I honeslty didn't intent it to be a flame.

It's just strange to work on huge cicrles, understanding that you personally won't eat the food that you're harvesting (besides the corn we'd skewer on long wire and drop into the steam upshoot).

I used to take naps on 300bushels of wheat 40 feet off the ground (on my John Deere 8800 combine).

I used to handpump 90 gallons of diesel into 5 combines every morning at 7:00 (just when the dew lifts).

My grandfather was the one that made my brother and I work 200 acre been field for nightshade when we were 9.

(1) Technically oil is a renewable resource, however effectively due to the time-frame required to produce more it might as well not be as far as the human race is concerned.

I haven't read this thread, but I think the answer is that we don't know yet. The commonly understood origin of oil appears to be incorrect. We're finding oil in places where oil shouldn't exist, in rocks that have never seen the surface of the planet(and therefor have had no contact with carbonaceous organisms).

We know that oil and tar-like hydrocarbons exist in space.

We think there could be an additional 50,000 billion barrels of oil hidden in the United States, we just haven't been looking in the right places or drilling deep enough.

Pretty interesting stuff.
