And the second one was still two hours too long.
Impressive... most impressive.

It does look like it's on the way to being a standard app for benchmarking. What I wonder is, why Oblivion would be setting the standards, and EverQuest 2 never became very widely regarded as a benchmarking app. When EQ2 first came out, I can not recall any game that was close to the graphics, and even now EQ2 seriously taxes the most powerful gaming rigs. Is there something that Oblivion does that EQ2 isn't doing or is it some kind of favoritism going on? I know a lot of hard-core gamers can be kind of down on MMORPGs, which is cool with me, I understand - I'm just saying I always wondered if the reason that EQ2 has never been considered a standard setting game, is possibly because it's an MMORPG.

meh, i didn't need to upgrade a thing
Me either.
it looks and runs GREAT on my midrange system. The GAMEPLAY is awesome . . . the gfx is just the 'icing' on this awesome 'cake'.
and WB did make LotR
[indirectly]
i'd like to see the 3-hour condensed version of LotR . . . 15 hours is a bit long for one sitting]]

I was never a fan of the icing on cakes... So that doesn't say much.

MMORPG's are excellent examples of games which have more depth and "serious" gameplay than many others; the counterpoint is that they suck up your life and don't have a "save" button and usually a less dynamic game world by design -- enter Oblivion here.
I think that a reason that they're not used in benchmarks as heavily is because they're very difficult to benchmark; the needs within the games themselves vary a lot, and user and server activity levels introduce complex and erratic variables. When you have to benchmark a dozen or so video cards, you can't really deal with this level of variability -- the results become unreliable with the environment itself introducing new variables.

Don't you have to pay regularly for EQ2? 'Nuff said.

Yes this game is a killer app.
I'd say if the Xbox ver could get some sort of multiplayer built-in thru XboxLive.. even just co-op mode.. you'd have half the PC guys buying an Xbox360 to play that.
And thats just co-op alone. Toss in a measly 4 player party support thru Xbox Live and say good bye Sony, good bye PS3.

thanks for confirming my point . . . the game/game play/controls/voice acting/story/etc./etc. . . . are what make this game great.
The superb gfx is an "extra" plus.
[or do you scrape the icing off cakes, too?; you can always turn the options off and way down in the game}

You won't be getting the optimal gaming experience in Oblivion with that 7900 GT (no HDR+AA). Just letting you know in case that matters to you.

IMO hot deals for vid cards are a lot more useful than listing PC parts in one's sig that nobody cares about.

So? I'm a fan of ATi cards at the moment and so I seek out deals (or people PM them to me) and I list 'em.
