Iron Maiden in their prime would wipe metallica's ars.

Maiden songs are 10X the complexity of Metallica's songs.

I would nominate Judas priest for a close second.

Not at all. Fade to Black easily tops any Iron Maiden song i can think of (and i can't think of any IM songs that i hear at the pub/club on anything other than a very infrequent basis ;)).

The haters (and those who don't listen to them but hear that it's cool to bash metallica) will ruin the poll at any rate ;)

At the end of the day it's a matter of personal opinion entirely tho, and therin lies the problem with this thread. I happen to enjoy at lot of what metallica play, and i'm no Iron Maiden fan. Some of you are the other way round it seems, and you're welcome to it ;)

I am not bashing you bro! I listen Metallica too just trying to make you see the light :) Score some Judas Priest also. They have 2 of the most talented guitarist in the heavy metal industry. I think you should also checkout the new Maiden DVD Dance of Death it is awesome too :)

holy sh!t...that was 21 years ago!!!! :Q:Q:Q

edit for correct math

It must've kicked ass to see them back then. The only time I've seen them in concert was during the Load tour with CoC.

that night they were in concert was Metal heaven...

Iron Maided and Wasp played at the Summit down in Houston (IIRC, it was Powerslave tour) and then Metallica (for the RTL tour) and Armored Saint played afterwards at little club called Cardi's off Wesheimer...we were 5 feet from the stage right between Kirk and James....

I've seen Metallica 4 times over the years. They may have once been the best, but they turned their concerts into theatrical productions instead of metal shows.

Slayer gets my vote. If you ever went to a Slayer show you'd know why.

P.S. if necessary I am prepared to post the signed album cover :D

Edit - I am a huge Iron Maiden fan, but IMO they are are a rock-n-roll band, not heavy metal. Metallica is about as light as you can get and still call it metal.

I listen to a lot of metal. In fact, I listen to pretty much only metal.
They are not anywhere on my top 10 bands list.
I don't think I'd place them in my top 100 bands list either.

Before they turned into a steaming pile of lawsuits, they did have some good music, but they are FAR from being anything remotly close to being the "greatest."

When it comes to The 80s, I'd much rather listen to Maiden, Manowar, Anthrax, Megadeth, Sodom, Destruction, Death, Venom, Virgin Steele, Slayer, Overkill, Possessed, Testament, Sepultura, Kreator, Bathory, Mayhem, Sacred Reich, or Carcass.
