I thought this was going to be a simple, respectable poll, but "You disagree and are an idiot" just throws your entire credibility out the window. Looks like the only guy who's a bigger douche bag than Johnny Depp is the OP.

His English wasn't clear, I interpret it that by disagreeing, you call Oilfieldtrash an idiot. 🙂

It's a compound sentence. Grammar, nubcake. "You disagree and (understood-you) are an idiot."

It makes perfect sense if you have any sort of grasp of the English language.

ROFL, learn how to read moron. He was making a joke

Oh. Well that just makes his post even more fail. :Q

Nik you are one disgruntled and volatile individual. I'm really not sure why I even respond to your ignorant bs. If it was in real life I would just laugh at you and walk away after you had served me my burger and fries. Have you ever thought about getting a job and leaving your parents house?

I'll add an unpopular choice - Will Smith. He plays his over confident funny guy who'll save the world bit well, but he can also play cerebral characters very well.. I don't think he's the best actor alive, but he's as good as Depp, just lext eccentric

pursuit of happiness shows that he is capable of more than being a funny man.

It's "The Pursuit of Happyness" (The spelling was a part of the plot)

Also, don't forget Six Degrees of Separation.

Then STFU and quit trying. Your half-assed comments hardly give me reason to bother, myself. Make all the assumptions you want. I'm the only one living in my home and I work at Intel. 🙂 You were saying?

I really liked him in that end of time/cgi zombies movie.. Forgot what it was called.. the movie itself wasn't all that great, but his acting (which was 90% internal) was excellent.. I mean, the scene when he had to kill his dog - fantastic, fantastic acting

I preferred Omega Man over I am Legend.

I believe Paul Newman was the greatest actor of all time but of my generation I believe its Johnny Depp. With Edward Scissorhands, Don Juan Demarco, Donnie Brasco, Blow, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Willy Wonka and the Chocalate Factory and many more who else even comes close. His acting range is better than anyone out there. Who else can play Willy Wonka and then convincingly play an undercover cop in Donnie Brasco?

*Smacks head to forehead*

Patting OilFieldTrash on the head......"Yes Dear. Now run along and play with your friends".

I didn't like I am Legend and am sure Omega Man was better, but Smith's performance was great in what was ultimately a B-Movie.

The best ever actor was far and away , as no zero competition for the award, Geaorge C. Scott. It's not even close.

Closer to this generation, it tough to say, but I'll go with Willem Dafoe.

Depp is definitely a great actor, but I can't define a "greatest".

My favorite actors have been:
Johnny Depp
DDL
PSH
Tom Hanks
L. DiCaprio
Brad Pitt

Ed Norton is of Depps generation and has him beat imo. This is not to say Depp is not stupendous.

Tom Hanks is pretty good IMO.

The problem with Tom Hanks is that he plays the same character in every movie. I mean, how many times can you play the mentally retarded-groom to be-astronaut-AIDS sufferer-airplane crash victim-detective-ad man-boy in a mans body-baseball manager-congressman-widower-record label executive-war veteran?

MotionMan

fbi agent too.

Yeah, he was a cop, a detective, a correctional officer and an FBI agent. I picked one to cover them all. I probably should have said "law enforcement" or something like that.

an unwilling dog-sitter?

fwiw, Tom Hanks should do more comedy. He was absolutely brilliant in those early flicks and as talented as he is with seemingly any role, comedy is absolutely the hardest for any actor--dude is a natural.

He was also in Dragnet as a detective in addition to his fine work in Turner and Hooch.

Tom Cruise has done a couple decent roles, I thought his hitman in that Michael Mann film was pretty solid, though Jamie Foxx overshadowed him somewhat.

There are lots of good to great actors out there :

Michael Caine
Philip Hoffman
Daniel Day Lewis
Tom Hanks
George Clooney
Leonardo DiCaprio
Edward Norton
Will Smith
Clint Eastwood
Tim Roth
Gary Oldman
Forrest Whittaker
Paul Newman (RIP, he is solid in EVERY thing he did IMHO)
Michael Douglas (he needs to grab some more roles, loved him in 'The Game' and 'Wonder Boys')
etc
etc
etc

OP said of our time. I don't think CLint Eastwood or DeNiro are from our time unless you're in your 40's or 50's.

And no, Depp isn't the greatest actor of our time unless you're emo then you die over him.

all better actors than Depp... except Clooney, that guy sucks

I really like Willem Dafoe as well, good call. Gary Oldman, as stated above, is a good choice too.

really? Clooney's pretty damn good. Quite versatile. He also personally finances a lot of projects that wouldn't be made otherwise, b/c douchebags like Bay thrive in the current studio system. (Goodnight and Good Luck, for one).

I also prefer DiCaprio, Oldman, Defoe over Depp, as has been mentioned. All of 'em solid

Everything you previously listed sounds...well...different.

It isnt a Denzel situation where it is always the exact same character.
