Whats the thread that he says it doesnt thin your blood?

Here's what I know.

15ish years ago, we had an awesome German Shepard by the name of Tiger.
He had a stroke.

The legend goes, we gave him a bit of vodka every day to thin his blood to help stop any blockage. He lived for another year or two I believe, and no more strokes. I believe the vet told us to do that, but I was only 5 at the time or so.

Alcohol

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but a quick google found this page, and on it is pointed out :

"Most body systems are affected by alcohol. Side effects include dilation of blood vessels and increased gastric secretion. Chronic alcohol consumption causes damage to body organs such as the brain, liver, heart, stomach, pancreas, and intestines."

well im sorry Jerboy if you thought it did thin blood but here is a direct quote from ICQ:

Halogen: they wouldn't care anyway because they also read the article in the new england medical journal saying that regular blood thinning puts less strain on the heart and makes you live longer
Jerboy: how the f*ck does getting "drunk" has anything with that

yer words bite don't they, yer a feisty one. meow!

Oh.

That makes more sense. Well, I know that red wine, say a glass a day at most, is somewhat healthy and can prevent heart disease.

Unfortunately, I don't like red wine.

But there are no real health benefits to chugging 5 beers a day... Especially the piss-drink that we americans love to chug.

I've yet to decide which is worse: beer or coffee.

Wine is acceptable, after I've removed at least 75% of the alcohol :p

<< Does alcohol make blood thinner? >>

Well, that would be the layman's term, but "thinner" isn't technically correct. And as for those "old" studies (known as the French Paradox) which show that moderate alcohol consumption can be good for cardiovascular health, there are new studies coming out that dispute this. Just as "old" studies showed that butter was 'bad' for you, then new studies showed the hydrogenated vegetable oils in margarines were even worse.

I had once heard someone claim that intoxication was produced because alcohol thinned the blood, which is definitely false.

I think that even if the "liqour is good for you" studies are correct, I still think that overall alcohol is bad. Yes maybe a drink a day reduces your chances of heart disease or something by a small amount but what about other problems such as liver degeneration and what not? Hey I LOVE alcohol. I do, but I don't pretend that it's good for me. Nobody waking up after having 12 beer the night before would tell me otherwise either :)

What do you mean by 'beneficial'?
