Is Jason Kidd the Overlooked SUPERSTAR?

What do you guys think?? I know I think I may have underestimated him. It has always taken 2 major stars to win an NBA championship. Ok, mb Pippen wasn't a star but he was pretty close. the only team in recent memory to win an NBA championship w/o 2 major stars is Houston. But they had Clutch Robert Horry, mb not a superstar, but he was pretty clutch in crucial situations.

If the Nets do go on to win the NBA championship, he'll get all the credit he deserves i'm sure, but IF he doesn't, does that make him less of a superstar??

How is he overlooked? He plays in the All-Star game, I would hardly call that overlooked.

a lot of guys make the all star game. that doesn't mean they aren't overlooked.

the consensus was that the Lakers would win it all again this year. then after the lakers got bumped that Duncan the MVP would win it all.

btw, Kidd SHOULD have been the MVP last season. Kidd took a perenial non playoff team, one of the worst teams in the NBA to the Finals, He should have been the MVP last season. that would be "overlooked".

even now, most people don't believe the nets have a real chance at winning it all.

Pippen was a huge star, the only player "who could score 5 points and still dominate a game". Anyhow...

Kidd is an elite star, and will be considered one of the great point guards of all time, especially if he eventually wins a championship, but he has the personality of cardboard, and having slapped around his woman doesn't help his marketing either.

I think K-Mart is the overlooked one here. I think most people agree that Kidd is one of the best 3 point guards in the league, if not THE best. Martin, however, is turning into one of the elite power forwards in the game.

agreed but last season was his first full season, this season, particularly in the playoffs, he's really begun to shine, so you can understand people overlooking him. especially if they never watch the nets play.

K-Mart will be a major force in the NBA.

I can't think of a PF in the east who I would take over Martin now. After watching what he did to Antoine Walker, I decided the Nets had a bonafide chance at winning it, especially if they face the Spurs. I would love to see Kidd/Parker Ducan/Martin.

How much do people know about Jason Kidd outside of the NY/NJ metro area? IamDavid's f-tarded reply is an example of such crap. That incident happened a long time ago, he underwent counseling and now he's prolly one of the most upstanding citizens in the NBA community. He's prolly not a "Superstar" because he is soft-spoken and not an attention-seeking buttnugget like other superstars in the NBA.

People don't exactly call Ben Wallace a superstar either, but I think he's underrated as well. Same with K-Mart, nobody in the East matches up and those that can match up in the West you can count on one hand. "Nice guys" don't get much media attention nowadays.

If you're an idiot Boston fan, fine... but "Don't cry... it's such a waste of good suffering."

The whole wife-beating thing has been blown out of proportion. You weren't there, so you don't know what happened, and, it's clear that things are patched-up and behind them.

Kidd WAS the MVP last year in my mind. That he didn't get it is a joke. Duncan was good enough this year to get it, but was not clearly the best. Two questionable MVP awards (in the sense that another player could easily have won it) does not make for an Eastern team rolling over. Plus, remember, the Mavs have the edge in their series right now!

Anyhow, back on topic. Kidd is a great player, no doubt. He will be in the Hall of Fame, and, there's a good chance he will win at least one championship, espcially if he stays in NJ. He gets a lot of recognition, I think, but that he didn't win the MVP last year shows that it's not enough recognition.

KMart is clearly the more overlooked player. His 30+ performance last year in the playoffs was a sign of things to come. He is a dominant player, and will be an All-Star for many years to come. If the Nets win the championship, he and Kidd will be the two candidates for Finals MVP. Maybe they'll share the award. :)

There's no hope for any eastern team to win the championship, unless the west team loses their PF (Duncan or Nowitzski). Martin is too short to defend either of them and an eastern team does not have enough weapons to play with any western team. If you notice, the west teams have to defend every player on the court because they can all score. On the east, they can not defend a guy and go double or triple someone else and still be able to rotate when the ball is passed.

martin is 6'11" and can outjump either of the pf mentioned.

people forget that he played Center in college and was a dominant center at that.

martin is the shortest 6'11" player i know tho. i think it's his athleticism that makes people not see his height.

Are we talking about east players and Martin now? I thought this was about Kidd. Kidd is not overlooked at all. He is the best point in the league no doubt about it.

He didn't get the mvp last year. I agree with you guys on this one. MVP is by definition most valuable player to the team and he was. If your definition of being overlooked is not getting the mvp then you're right. Garnett did not get the mvp this year and he should have. Is he overlooked?

Bottom line: Kidd is not overlooked.

huh? he uses another measurement system from other 6'11" players? ...anyway he is pretty good defensively but needs to develop more low post moves...right now he has a thug offensive game...pretty ugly too...

nah, we're still talking about kidd, it's interesting that discussion of K-Mart keeps coming up tho. i think the 2 are becoming very interdependent. i will be very very surprised if kidd doesn't resign with the nets.

and btw, no matter who kidd signs with, it won't be about the money, they will all offer him the league maximum salary, so he'll choose where he wants to go.

i think he want's to stay in NJ. face it, if he goes to the spurs then he is joining Duncans team, in NJ it is W/O question Kidd's team.

he'll stay.

Kidd isn't overlooked, he just plays in the east now. When he played in the west, he was just as good, but couldn't do too well because the teams he played on didn't have the big men to compete with the western bigs. His Suns lost to the Kings because they couldn't match up at the center and forward positions (Webber and Divac vs. Tsakalidis/Voskuhl and back then, Clifford Robinson). Anyway, Antoine Walker sucks.. he's slow, just shoots 3s, and that disrupts the offense, the same way Jason Williams did in Sacramento.

To the topic of Kenyon Martin, he's short. He has yet to stop Webber and he's the slowest of the good western forwards. Also, according to the Nets website, Martin is only 6'9''.

Espn has him listed at 6'9" i can tell you, he's the tallest 6'9" player i've ever seen play.

I think Martin's ability to defend Duncan is being sold short, so to speak. Duncan is not like Shaq; he does not over-power players. Sure, he's big, he's strong, and he's quick, but let's face it, his is a game of finesse (much like Hakeem) -- he shoots the J a lot.

Now let's consider KMart as a defender. He's like LJ (Larry Johnson) used to be: a big guys who is an excellent perimeter defender. That is, he's quick and has great instincts. I believe that he is a good match against Duncan's game, though I agree he's a bit short.

The problem with KMart defending Duncan is that he could pick-up a lot fouls. However, the same goes the other way. Who on the Spurs can defend KMart? Duncan? What a joke! KMart has the best face-up moves of any big guy in the league. Duncan is low-post defender, not a face-up, perimeter guy.

It should be an awesome match-up if it happens.

You mean to say some people play larger than their height, like 6'10'' Amare Stoudemire and some people play shorter like 7'6'' Shawn Bradley :)
