Like apply to a company just to see if you can get the job, and see if the pay and benefits are better?

Well, I guess its not wrong... but is it rude to? and would it look bad if I only been with this other job for 5 months?

It's not rude, even if you've been there only 5 months. The problem with being there only 5 months is that company's you are applying at may view that as a negative because it may seem like you jump around from job to job. I would also not advise telling them that you are looking because they may start looking (and possibly find) your replacement. Which would be bad because sometimes job searches can take months to find the right job. Sure you could probably find a job a lot faster than that but then chances are after 5 months of working there you will be in this same situation.

So to make a long story short, don't tell them you're looking, keep looking it you are un-satisified, but don't take a job just because someone offers it, take a job because you really want it and will be happy there for longer than 5 months.

Very true very true, my previous job I had during college I was at for 3 years... The job I have now is not bad at all... pay and benefits are both great.... but I came across a position for an even better company.... I guess I'm curious to what I would earn at the other company...

Do you think they'd tell you ahead of time if they were planning on laying you off? Or do you think you'd be the last to know?

reason behind it? Looking for better pay? better benefits? Just dont like the job?

They cut my hours considerably. 2 Weeks ago I was workign 32.5 hours @ 10/hr. (I'm a college student so this is good). Last week 0 hours, they called me up to work 4 hours on Thanksgiving because business is unusually slow. I hope I'm getting time and a half for that bullshat. But, I say fvck this job, I'm out after I find another steadier job.
