If 2 days off per week are part of my compensation package, then I have every right to take them every single week, and if I didn't, I might not be the dumbest fucker in the world, but I'd be pretty close.

Leave isn't "given" to anyone. Nothing is given. Take away the leave, and I get more cash. Add insurance, and I get less cash. See how that works? Going above and beyond, would be the company telling me to stay home on them. I get paid, and my leave holds the current tally. That would be doing something for me, and it would make me inclined to do something for them. That's loyalty. When you do something that isn't specifically contracted.

Way to change your entire argument. Pretty typical with lazy employees who are always making excuses.

Quoting you - "It's always acceptable to call out of work, regardless of reason. Employers are as loyal to you as any other random psychopathic person is. IOW, not at all. You're a tool to be used, and discarded when they determine you aren't valuable enough, which could be as trivial as "shareholders want more money this quarter". Never feel bad about taking off of work."

i think the mentality is employers can and will fire/lay you off for any reason they please, despite how long you have stayed loyal to whatever company.

Therefore said employee shall call in sick as they please

carry on chaps!

Sure, and you can leave and find another job for any reason you please, no matter how long you've worked there.

That does not equate to taking off as many sick days as possible, even when you are not sick, screwing over both your fellow coworkers and employer.

I'm a manager. The company I work at provides a good amount of time off, for an American company. I encourage my employees to use every day they are provided and not to waste any of them. It is preferred that vacation time be scheduled in advance, but I'm not concerned if someone wants a day here and there 'just because' so long as I have coverage and that person's work is keeping up with expectations.

Who cares why people call of work or who is a "typical lazy employee"?

OP, I hope your dog rests in peace, it sucks having a pet die when you aren't there. My cat died Sophomore year and I was in Michigan at the time. I never got to say goodbye and I never got to spend time with him while he was still at home.

Sometimes, I think that if I was there, I could have done something to make him more comfortable.

It ripped me up when my mom called after he was put down to ask me if I preferred she take his body home or get him cremated. That wasn't a choice I wanted to make. But, we got his ashes and an imprint of his paw.

I still miss Nemo. *tear*

Sorry for your loss. IMO that is an acceptable reason to call in. I may not have given that exact reason if asked but rather made up some kind of health issue. Some bosses may not have the understanding about pets to see that as a valid sick excuse.
This is exactly my thinking as well.
Depending on your boss, there is no way to guess how your boss will feel about it unless if he's a very reasonable person or a pet owner.
There may be some bosses that consider calling out because "old yeller" or any other pet died to be a very petty issue and would give you the "evil eye" look at the next meeting.

The OP should just make up an excuse and call out sick.

Agree with most here.

Your time off is earned, by you. Take it when needed. Any good boss recognizes that people need time away.
