How exactly has this "addiction" to the Internet affected your life in a negative way?
well, i always have tended to be a little short on sleep. i dont really get out much or am very social, i dont have many other hobbies, and i tend to sit around and not get enough exercise.
currently also i dont have a job, and ive been prolonging finding one, because i have the internet to entertain me all day, and im living at home and not paying rent.

Alcoholics could simply use self control. I mean its not like they'd die without the alcohol, right? whats to say that they have it any harder than i do? since when is a physical desire going to always be tougher than a psychological desire?
Alcohol withdrawl symptoms can kill a person... I'd say that's pretty tough.
okay, but internet addiction is still a real thing. if it wasnt we wouldnt have so many counselors for it and such.
i dont see how it would be any different than something like gambling addiction.
and i also think internet addiction could have some chemical basis. Endorphins may increase via using it, therefore I'm trying to seek that state constantly.

People without the internet arent really people. Just shells. Seriously. The internet is a new media that is integrating more and more to society as a whole. You arent a person if you dont have internet access.
Desktop support pay is just fine unless you have some extraordinairy spending habbits and being in Desktop support, there are plenty of opportunities to advance whether you are taking the booksmarts route or the salesman route. I have seen dozens of COMPLETE IDIOTS rise up through the ranks without having a clue about what they are doing.
Yes, you need the internet to be a person, no you dont need the internet to work in IT, but it would make more sense.
Does anyone else agree with this guy? Thats like saying that someone isnt a person if they dont own a TV. I know the internet is common and almost expected in American homes, but seriously, its not like the internet is replacing face to face communication or phone communication or anything like that.

Except that's a chemical dependency and unrelated to an emotional one.. either way we're splitting hairs here. I think the point is that you should try to exercise some self control, if you cannot control yourself you cannot expect to get very far.
self control is easier to practice in some circumstances than others!
