Tripe is the stomach lining not the intestine.

And yes the Govt allows a certain amount of unknown substances in hot dogs as well as other processed food items. I mean come on, there's no way they can keep out every piece of hair and bug/rodent dropping.

Haven't you ever heard? Hotdogs are made with snouts and ends.

This means:

Cow/pig noses
Cow tongue, lips, liver
Pig tongue, lips, liver
Normally, no chicken.

A popular "natural casing" hot dog on the East Coast is the brand Saugy's, if I remember correctly. Never had the pleasure of trying one though.

Lung tissue...thats why it expands when its cooked :disgust: Had a uncle that worked for a meat packer place, all he would tell me was "If you knew you would never eat them again"

Ignorance is bliss when you're talking about the food-industry...

Some time ago a company was sued for using decomposing organs, muscle- and other tissue for minced meat balls (I think that's how those 'things' are called) and other fast food.

His defense? It was all sterilized before it was packaged, so no one would die of food poisoning...

I'm glad that I'm a vegetarian :D
