I hear all the time about junk going into making hot dogs. Are they as bad as people say? Does anyone KNOW for sure or has witnessed them in the making?
I haven't seen it but if you go to the supermarket, you can look at the package of the ingredients of what goes in to the hotdogs. Usually, it consists of pork, beef, and chicken. The grossness is really just what parts of the meat goes into the hotdogs...(ewww cow intestines >=o/ )
<< haha, anyone remember that simpsons ep where homer put the hotdog together in his head?
lol, pigeons... >>
That was Lisa..if you're talking about the one where Lisa and the Simpsons goes to the zoo and see the cutey pie lamb and when they go home Marge serves lamb chops and Lida questions whether this lamb that they're eating is the same as the one from the zoo and Marge asks if I can get you something else like chicken or hamburger and Lisa pictures those animals in her head being eaten and finally Marge talks about hot dogs and Lisa pictures a bunch of disgusting stuff put together...
Was it that episode that they showed the "Food Chain" illustration in the class film? They showed everything going into the human's mouth LMAO that was great
well basically i think all of the "leftovers" get put into hotdogs. i.e. when you get a chicken breast...its all meat...the leftovers from that chicken probably go into the hot dogs. or pigs, cows, etc.
It is mostly pork/pig meat. Many of the cheaper hot dogs at the groceries have a lot of fillers. Check the ingredients to see if it's all/mostly meat, or if it has a lot of fillers.

Is that "fillers" as in "shredded newspaper"?
My mother used to tell stories about when she worked in a factory that made jelly and jams. There were signs all over that said you could not spit on the floor...so everyone spit in the vats.
Also, they kept windows open in the summer and hundred of bugs would fly in...and never leave.
We had a processing plant outside of town (I lived in cow country) that produced mystery meat; stuff used in things like hot dogs. They used to pile the scraps from all the local meat packing plants in a huge mound outside, then used a small bulldozer to push the piles into the plant...and packaged meat came out the other side.
The smell was soooo bad. I cannot remember the last time I had a hot dog. Or jelly.

lol...oh well, hot dogs are still tasty

and dog food.
but really, most fillers are bread crumbs and stuff like that.
Well, the USDA has eight grades of beef: prime, choice, select, standard, commercial, utility, cutter and canner. I'm not so sure I want to know which of these makes its way into a hot dog...

No. It's just generally preservatives, small random bits of food, etc. It's nothing bad like rotten apple cores or newspaper . It varies widely what it is between hot dog brands; you have to check the package of what you want to find out exactly (if any) what fillers are in the 'dogs.
anyone ever have skinned hot dogs, sausages, etc? They use intestines in there for the casing. I dont find it disgusting, since everything is stelized when they pacakge it, and when you cook it.
i love hot dogs, and dont really care what's in em. I say that if they are legally allowed to sell them, then they must be safe. I especially like FUN DOG brand that are 69 cents a pack.
