Is it true that PS4 will have better graphics/peformance PC

m kind of new PC, but I know some things, (I hope) and I don't really know a lot, but I heard an argument before, and want to get your guys thoughts on it.. im deciding of building a pc for the first time, or getting a PS4

PS4 is a closed platform, so developers can optimize "code to the metal" which will produce better graphical games then a high end PC (even with the most powerful graphics card).....

is it true that as graphcis card get stronger, graphics wont change because of diminishing return

is it true that pc games graphically are held back, because developers aren't making pc games that are optimizing and aiming for that high end pc game with a super rig

Another Troll thread.

im not a troll, im asking a simple question

the ps4 is a closed platform which means developers can learn the hardware, and optimize it and use it at great potential

pc gamers have different set-ups so its hard to optimize for 1 specific gpu/spec

lame troll attempt. Ure coming on a pc enthusiast forum & posting ps4 will have better graphics. *yawn* dont feed the troll kids.

I thought this question was a joke, but assuming it isn't:

The answer is no. Maybe if your PC is from the dark ages or some cheesy iGPU laptop. Otherwise, with a good cpu and gpu the answer is "NO".

no one can answer a simple question......

the ps4 has the "closed platform" advantage allowing better single spec optimization and "coding to the metal"......

what about coding to the metal

Yeah what about it. Even with that the PC GPU has up to 30 times more brute force power, higher resolution, more features, coding direct to hardware cannot make up for the deficit because the PS4s hardware is SUBSTANTIALLY worse. Then again the PS4 is 400$. I'm sure it will be a fine console FOR THE PRICE, in fact I plan on getting one because I prefer consoles for fighting games and certain competitive games. And frankly most of my buds have consoles but not PC's. Anyway, to question whether it will match a modern powerful PC? Hell no it won't.

I am beginning to think i'm in a troll thread though. I should stop feeding.

Ya and even 7870 can run BF4 better than ps4 on 900p

On the 1% chance this is not a troll thread:

NO.

The CPU cores on the PS4 are very slow compared to an intel i5 or i7, less than half the speed.

The GPU on the PS4 is low-midrange and with a PC you can crossfire or SLI 2-4 high-end cards

The RAM on the PS4 is 8 MB total for both CPU and GPU (shared memory) and the PS4 operating system reserves more RAM than Windows (1.5+ GB).

The PS4 also ships with a platter hard drive instead of a SSD.

One trick consoles often use is to render at a lower resolution and then upscale. As far as I'm aware, there are already launch titles that will be hitting both PC and PS4, and the PS4 will not be running them at 1080P.

what about coding to the metal

It helps some, but so far not nearly enough to make up for the PS4 having less than half the power of a midrange gaming PC.

Is it a good gaming system for $400? Sure.

Is it better than a ~$1,000 gaming PC? Not a chance.

Also, at launch there are almost no games for it. With a PC there are thousands, starting at $1 instead of $60.

Consoles can squeeze every ounce of performance as they have a much deeper access to the hardware and its fixed i.e. developers don't have to worry about compatibility issues and sorely focus on the performance/visuals. This is true.

BUT this doesn't mean that consoles can magically perform more outside their theoretical peaks. The hardware WILL always the limit here. Even if your able to make it 100% efficent it cannot overcome its physical hardware limit. Desktop graphics are already venturing into the realm of 4K gaming where as the current console graphics are still stuck in 1080p if not lower resolutions.

Just to put this into perspective.. 1080P = ~2 million pixels on the screen. 4K is approx 8 million pixels.

C'mon guys... be careful of these big companies' paid social media marketing people - they start troll threads to drum up discussion and thread counts... If you look exactly what the OP is posting, he is using specific popular keywords to improve or pick up search engine entries... :ninja:

Anyhow... in response to OP... High end PC rigs with high end graphics cards can run games at 2560x1440 or higher resolutions at playable good frame rates... a PS4 cannot do that...

Wow,I must have missed other troll threads about console v PC.:$
I hope you guys are right because it seems pretty harsh to jump on this guy for his original post.
As mentioned above, the hardware you can deploy via PC is far more powerful than that which is inside a Playstation or an XBox even with "close to the metal" optimizations.
If you want the best visual fidelity and the smoothest game play then a PC is the superior platform.

the 1440 resolution... well tv's arn't out yet on 1440....but the ps4 should be powerful to do 1440 resolution

Mods plz see this
Bro i think u dont now what u are talking about.PS4 and XB1 dont even go beyond 1080p and they limited but still dont even play games on 1080p from the start and have a lot of AA,lighting effect and other problems.

ok...what is wrong with the ps4 that it wont allow it to play above 1080p?.

is it the weak hardware?

At $400 the Ps4 is not more a "bang for the buck deal" in graphics department.

PS3/360 was much more of a good deal in terms of graphics quality per dollar.

The exclusives will be the determinant factor to decide if consoles will be a good deal this round. All the impression i have about One/Ps4 for now is that are two lower-cost designs.
