Is it still crazy to scan 1000 magazines?

You are crazy.
Do it. 😛

On a related topic, I find many of the books in my favorite RPG are disorganized and repeat a lot of info.
I would love to do an OCR scan of all the books and rearrange the text in a conscise, useful manner with MS Word.

Am I crazy?
Should I do it?
If so, what program should I use to do the OCR? Is the document scanner that comes with Office 2003 good enough? Or should I use one from a quality image suite?

I am making Jpegs and putting them into PDF's. Much easier then OCR......... you will be editing forever if you use OCR.

That's crazy. What's the combined file size for all of it?
I wonder if you can run all of the images through an ocr program, then load that text into a database for easy searching through it all...

Probably but I don't have Adobe Acrobat and I am using a third party PDF creator.

After I scan them all I have to resize some of the Jpegs, make them into PDF's and then I want to make a db index of all of the articles.

You're not going to resize manually right? You know about Image Resizer?

maybe resize was a bad description........... some of the magazines had glued bindings. I had to cut the bindings off in order to scan the magazines. It left a white margine (3/4 of an inch) that I would like to cut off.

So I guess I will have to do that manually. 🙁

Oh ouch 🙁 . Because I was gonna say, Image Resizer could resize that in a minute

eh......... can't be worse then scanning the mags. I think the most difficult part will be the DB index.
