Is it still crazy to scan 1000 magazines?

I came on here to see if anyone discusses salt/reef tanks and stumbled on this thread. I always wanted to scan magazines, but figured it wans't worth the time. Too bad they don't have better multi-page, consumer scanners which would make this more feasible. I admire and expect your effort, Aquaman... you'd never catch me doing it though 🙂

Well........ time to get off my butt and start scanning again.

695/960 72.4% done.

Cheers,
Aquaman

Do you still get the same feeling when looking at the digital copies? For the same reason I don't want a Kindle I find that the actual books are much more enjoyable.

I feel a lot better because there are not 15+ banker boxes full of mags that weight 450+ pounds.

Also easier to look for articles ........ well once I get the DB index done.

I do agree on the book issue though. I'd rather have a book in my hands.

I know you're already a ways into this and I applaud your diligence, but you do know there are websites that specialize in this sort of thing right? You might have to pay a little money, but chances are the PDFs are already out there unless this is really obscure stuff.

Why pay money when I already have the information 😉 Just take a little bit of time and a lot of patients.

I'm too lazy to go through the entire thread and I don't remember if it was asked the previous time I read it years ago. What format are you saving these in? What sort of hierarchy / organization are you doing to keep the information at your fingertips?

Michael Scott: An office is as safe as the people in it. And sometimes those people can drive you to crazy things to show the dangers of the office. That's the danger I found myself in today. I saved a life. My own. Am I a hero? [pause] I really can't say, but yes.

aquaman I am pretty amazed, to keep the motivation and do this for 2 years is pretty awesome.
This ability would be nice to learn programming 😛

I don't like looking at magazines on the screen though

I would suck at the programming........ took CS in high school........ was average.

dude you haven't scanned one since you hit 695. scan more right MEOW

Now that I have a new scanner........ the computer does not recognize it or any flash or external USB HD......... it still works with my Laser printer............. time for a new computer I guess.

Cheers,
Aquaman

Hmmm.......... I may have to put this project on hold.

I was ramping up to finish it of with a database index........... now I get a side job from a consulting friend of mine.

To digitize 10000 linear feet of files for a law firm. 🙂

Well......... at least I will be getting paid for it 🙂

Cheers,
Aquaman
