Is it still crazy to scan 1000 magazines?

Yes I finally started it. It's going to take me a year or 2 to complete it.

Maybe the publisher has a database you can use, you should give them all call and tell them about this project.

They have indexes every year for the previous years articles but I want to take the index a bit deeper (ie advice columns have 3-6 questions every month).

So, you're not going to update the OP with a running total?

This is the first time i've seen this topic, and i must admit i admire your dedication. besides, it has to be better than going with microfiche.

Do you think it's crazy to scan 600+ mags? I won't be scanning every page but all pages with articles on them so for example a 70 page mag will have 45-50 pages that have articles or pictures on them.

I guess I will find out how tough my Canon Scanner is :)

To update:

633/637 (99.37%) Done :)

4 mags to go

52000+ scans

21gb of scans

314 lbs (144kg)weight

No Torrents :p

i know this is late but what you could have done is used a high res camera (5 megapixels +) and used that to take pictures of each page placgin the camera on a tripod. i don't use a tripod but its works for me when i wanna scan some pages quckly to read on the computer later.
