the user?

I don't know how, but me and my friend were having this discussion and he thought that most computer problems are caused by the computer (or Operating System) itself...

Badly designed software causes clueless users to do unfortunate things.

Like click on a email link and install viruses. Badly designed software combined with clueless users.

So I pick: "C. all the above"

Agree with Drag's analysis - but that makes the answer to you question "affirmative."

There's only so much the software can do in the face of Dancing Pigs. Users will do whatever it takes to see Dancing Pigs.

Sounds like he's trying to find a scape goat for his problems and/or just doesn't understand the system well enough to see what he's doing wrong. Sure there are bugs in software that can cause problems and as long as software is written by humans they'll always be there, but by and large the majority of computer problems stem from people misusing their systems.

A new user hooks up his computer and after only 20 minutes it's already infected by viruses and worms that the operating system allowed to be installed. I'd have to blame the operating system, or the computer vendor that sells it.

All problems are caused by the user, whether it be a programmer or the end user. Most problems are caused by the end user's negligence. That's a matter of opinion, however.

So if a guy buys a new car and slams it into a pole 2 miles down the road it's the dealership's fault?

That logic is so far off it's hard to begin to debate it so I will not.

Guess 9 of 10 is Heat in the CPU, ( Chaos Punish Users )

But changing the piece between the monitor and the chair is always welcome.

It's the user. Shouldn't have been looking at naughty pics or downloading cracks.

If the user knew enough to lock the computer down and install security software before connecting to the internet there wouldn't be an issue.

So the problem goes back to PEBKAC.

But does the instruction manual tell users to do that, and how to do that? Is there even an instruction manual? I don't remember seeing a useful operating instruction manual come with a computer, or operating system in a long time.
