Uncle recalled me to active duty before the final semester was completed.
Out of cool New England and into the frying pan of OCS in Texas when graduation may have been held.

Diploma paperwork showed up 3-4 years later.

Graduation is a boring 3-4 hours. It isn't fun. So I bet half of all people I knew skipped their graduation. The thing is, graduation pictures are priceless. The smiles they bring to grandparents is worth the lost 3-4 hours one morning. In 50 years, I'll cherish my photos too. In 50 years will you cherish that extra 3 hours of sleep you had that one morning?

I only went so my parents and grandmom could be proud or whatever. For me it was just a waste of time.

I went to my graduation for my four year degree, because it was a struggle and took me five years to get it. But I didn't attend graduations for my associates degree or my masters degree.

But like someone else said, what else are you possibly doing that day that would be more important?

I didn't go to mine. I don't feel any worse. I also never picked up the paper diploma either, still in the school vault or maybe the trash.. who knows? People used to give me some hassle. They usually argued that it somehow authenticated and completed my college experience. I think, the four and a half years I toiled and sweated are memory enough. I don't need a piece of paper that only I would look at nor did I need to shake hands with a guy I had never seen during my stay at college and most likely wold never see him again. I also graduated half way through the year too, too late to go with my origional class and too early to be with the next one.

Also, to my family, I didn't do anything special, so I doubt they would have come anyhow. They didn't go to any of my sister's graduations, my high school graduation, or anything.

Quite easily, in fact.

I find ceremonies to be rather frivolous occasions. You put in the time, you qualify for the diploma, that's what matters. No sense sitting through someone blathering on about all the work you already know that you've completed.

It's not for you. It's for the parents. If you don't care about your parents, then don't go.
Unless his parents won't be there. I am quite sure mine won't be at mine, nor do I expect them to. I'm 7 hours away from home. That's way too far to go just to listen to a bunch of people talk about nothing, and then for me to get handed a purely symbolic piece of paper.
And hey, you can save money by not having to buy a cap and gown.

I did go to my high school graduation, though I didn't want to. My psychologist suggested that it'd be a "good experience." Thus far, I'm not feeling it.
I don't remember if my parents were there or not, and I've not seen any pictures. I was kind of zoned out throughout it, wishing I wasn't there in the crowd, listening to the BS speeches by classmates. I didn't even hear my name getting called, someone just nudged my shoulder. I'm told I graduated with honors, but I didn't even hear that part.

I didn't go to my graduation either. It's a meaningless ceremony to receive a meaningless piece of paper.

Once I got a job in my field and making a decent wage, then I celebrated.

there are ceremonies that are overdone and all that, and i dont buy into all the traditions that society deems necessary either, but some people just like to be anti for the sake of it.

graduation ceremonies are pointles I never went to high school and college graduation the only reason I went to my grad school graduation was the choice presented to me by my advisor either attend graduation and graduate this semmester or delay your gradation until you decide otherwise on the topic of attending graduation :p

I didn't go to mine... who cares really?

Maybe if reaching graduation was actually a challenge or if there were some odds to overcome to get there (like generational poverty or a disability of some kind) then going to the ceremony would be worth the time.

Went to HS one. It was a bore. Skipped my when it was my turn. On the other hand, I had the "pleasure" of attending 2 other people graduation ceremonies. Bore to tear both time.

My parents would kill me if I decided not to go to my graduation. Plus I'm not some anti-social freak, so my friends will want to go, and I will go for some of my friends.

I didn't go to my high school graduation, and I didn't want to go to my college graduation (parents did), but I suppose I'm glad I went.

That said, I don't think it'll make a difference whether you go or not.

EDIT: I did not go for the speeches, however, which were luckily held separately. They had a brief introduction then read off people's names by department.

I went to my undergrad graduation ceremony, but when I graduate from grad school in 4 weeks I am taking a trip to Italy, so I'll miss this ceremony this time. Oh well.

 Many people's parents pay for all or a large portion of their college education. They deserve something in return for their thousands of dollars. ;)

No. Parents and relatives made me. Same story with all of my friends. Graduation was the biggest fcking waste of my time ever (although my Parents letting me eat anything I wanted at McCormic and Schmits afterwards helped :) ) My attitude was (and still is) Just give me my diploma and let me relax a$$holes.

At my graduation you didn't actually get your diploma.. you got a certificate that said your diploma will be mailed to you in a few months. Really made it even more pointless to be there.

I only went to my high school one because we had to. I didn't go to my undergrad one or when I got my M.S. I probably won't go when I finish my Ph.D. They're just really boring and pointless to me.
