Is it sad that I don't want to go to my graduation?

Granted that it will still be a while before I graduate from college, but I've been thinking there's no point in actually attending the ceremony. All my friends go to different universities, and I really doubt we'll even graduate at the same time. Seems kinda pointless that I get my diploma in front a bunch of people that I don't even know.

I didn't want to go to mine either but circumstances presented themselves that made me change my mind. I did not go to my graduation in graduate school though.

Unless you transfered and were only there for 2-3 years. How the heck do you not have any friends at the college you go to?!

It's a commuter school, more of the get in and get out place. And I transferred not too long ago.

Sitting through hours of graduation at a major university just isn't worth it IMO. If you're in a small university or a small college within a university, it shouldn't be too bad, but I'm not about to sit in the heat with a suit+gown and funny hat... ;)

It's not for you. It's for the parents. If you don't care about your parents, then don't go.

There is no way I missing any of my graduations (in a year or so), it's not only about my parents but the number of friends I have in that class is just huge, I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Are you sure there isn't anyone you would enjoy sharing that moment with at all?

I don't think anyone really looks forward to sitting through it, but I'm glad I went to mine. It's a nice memory to have with your parents, and I got to see some of the people I'd shared classes in my major with for a few years and meet their families and say good-bye and good luck to them. Oh, and it was kind of interesting a few years later to mention that he had been our speaker when Biden ran for President.

I didn't want to go to mine either but my sister and her family flew in from South Carolina just to see me go to the ceremony. Needless to say, I had no choice. It was a pointless 3 hours.

Don't say it's pointless and such just like that. It depends on the person and what they particularly want.

I look at it this way. Graduations only come around a few times a lifetime. What else are you going to do with that time that has as much potential? You can always go read that magazine or ding that next level, but once you skip your graduation, it's gone. Can't go back.

Your kids and parents will want to hear the story, too.

My parents would frikin kill me if I didn't decide to go to graduation after all the money they paid to send me to the second most expsnsive college in the country :p. Like many have said, goign to graduation is not about YOU, you will probably be bored and hot etc. However its something so that your parents and relatives can come and see that you actually accomplished something worthwhile with your life over the last 4 years (becasue hoesntly I think my parents are too sure thats the case with me :p). If nobody else wants to attend for you then its fine that you don't go, but if someone else is paying your bill then you might want to pay them back by letting them see what they paid for.

Well, Billy, it was long and hot and boring and I wore a robe and some guy handed me a piece of paper as I walked across a stage and had my picture taken. What's that? Could I have gotten the piece of paper without enduring hours of worthless speeches and an interminable litany of other people's names? Why yes, yes I suppose I could have. But I did it for the story.

I think not.

Didn't go to mine. I paid my own way thru college, so didn't feel the need to dress up in a silly outfit for the benefit of anyone else.

If not for my parents, I would've just skipped out on my graduation. I didn't want to be at my HS nor my 4-year degree graduation. Took us 3 hours just to go through the names, and our college was only about 5k people total.
