I was wondering the same thing.

I think I'm gonna use my monthly free rental for Crackdown, and just hold onto the disc for a month or two, then pay the $1.50 restocking fee.

I bet that I'm not the only one with that idea though... When does the Halo3 Beta release?

i would think that it comes with some kind of code that you use or something and if they (BB) didn't take it out already, it was probably used by the 1st person to rent it.

i could be wrong but i can't imagine them allowing every one who rents the game into the beta.

I guess we won't know until someone who owns Crackdown comments.

I think there may be some of "sign up" process, but I'm not sure if it has occurred yet (it may occur when the beta is released.)

You need the disc, like I said.

I own Crackdown.

So if I rent it from BB, then I can play until I return, correct?

Yes, unless Microsoft supplied all the rental stores with altered copies of the game (which is HIGHLY unlikely). There are no codes to deal with. When you boot to the main menu of Crackdown, there is a special menu to access the Halo 3 beta. You can only download the beta from this menu, and more importantly, you can only launch the beta from this menu. So if you have the game disc, you have the beta.

Just go rent the game and see if it has the Halo 3 beta menu in it. If there is, then you can play the demo.

I don't see why they would care if rental copies could play the beta also...

Are those games seriously heavy enough to warp the wood like that?

Most wood (especially veneered like that probably is) will sag in the middle over time if not properly supported, no matter the weight on it.

AFAIK need the game, but a rental copy is fine.

GameFly even mentioned in their monthly email update that you could rent Crackdown to get access to the Halo 3 beta.

I had the same idea in mind. I rented Crackdown with the intention of playing the Halo 3 beta.

According to Halo3.com, it was supposed to be released at 5am, PST. It is now 1pm PST and I have not been able to download the beta. The "Download Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta" is still unavailable. So, who knows what's up. I'm wondering if ANYONE has been able to play it yet?

everyone that won a beta code can and has been playing just fine. the only people affected are the people trying to play through crackdown.

Doh! I did some digging. Apparently the beta should be up for Crackdown owners (or renters) between 7pm - 10pm PST. According to Bungie.com
