It's a fact that activated carbon absorbs (adsorbs, I think) impurities in gases and liquids. It's used to remove odors, filter particulates from air, etc.Originally posted by: DigDug
I don't see how this can work. The filter is that selective as to take micro amounts of material out of the vodka? Nahh. Those folks are just getting progressively more drunk. Add to that a hefty does of desire to see their experiment succeed and you have a grey goose vodka made from lighterfluid!
Try distilling the vodka once over.

All you people who says this doesnt work. Put the vodka through a brita filter 5 times. I did and just sipped it each time. The final product is 10x better and smoother than gray goose. So if you havent tried it, STFU and go back to jerkin it to porn

Figured I'd bump this instead of making a new thread.
Tried it with Zelko Vodka and a Pur Filter. Actually made it taste much less harsh (and only after one pass). Only problem is, a lot of the vodka stays in the filter after you're done. So when I went to have a glass of water this morning, it tasted horrible.

Even if it does work, would this really be cost effective? Dosent it ruin the brita water filter?

it may wear it out faster, but if you could put 3-4 gallons of the cheap stuff through a single filter, you'll save $100 at least.
Um, why didn?t you guys do the test double-blind?
Scienticians often are forced to take short-cuts to make giant king sized leaps of advancement in the field of boozahology. You?ll also notice that the crackers weren?t sterile, the glasses were barely clean, and there was a conspicuous lack of any saftey gear. Sometimes, you just have to stare down the barrel of progress and hope there?s not one sitting in the chamber.

2.5L Brita kit (including one filter) is CDN$15.
A three-pack of filters is another $15.
That's an initial investment of $30 and should be able to run a whole lotta booze.
A 750ml of Grey Goose is $40.
The same in Smirnoff is $20. Cheaper is available, but this is a good "half price."
If filtered Smirnoff >= GG, you make it back in two bottles. Quicker if you just buy a single 1.75L for $50.

Alright, I am willing to try this out. Can I just go to walmart and buy a 2.5L Brita Kit with 3 filters, along with a gallon of takka? (If Takka is a good choice for this). And how many gallons could a filter handle, 3-4 you guys said?
