Is it possible to get a checking account if you're under 18?

You need your parents to co-sign on it

bingo. i opened mine at the credit union under 18.

corporate banks are nothing but a bunch of asshats looking to make a buck. credit unions kick their asses to the curb by FAR.

Yep, its gotta be a joint account with one of your parents. Also if your under 16 like me, you can only get a Debit Card, no checks until 16.

Yes, most banks offer student products which includes a checking and savings account.

Valid school ID is usually required.

You should be able to. I'd get one at whatever bank your parents have their accounts at. You'll be able to order checks (for a fee) and get a debet card that you can use like a Visa, just without accumulating debt.

I don't think they open checking accounts here at that age but I'm sure they have products available to students 16-18 years of age.

Do they ever? No.

If someone wants to know how much a Burger King Whopper with heavy pickles is, what do they do? They post it on AT.

It's beyond me why people can't pick up the phone and call for themself rather than posting on AT.

why leave the warm glow of our monitors? there should be a study one day...is it more efficient to call, get put on hold for 10 minutes, transferred 8 times to get the answer or just ask OT?

Who said you have to leave the warm glow of your monitor? The ultimate ATer has their cell and cordless phone on their computer desk next to their cot and mini fridge filled with beverages.

Yes, actually I did.
so what did they say?

They said that someone under 18 couldn't legally have a checking account. They did say something about having a parent cosign, but it's harder to make withdrawls.

I just called Citibank, and they said that I couldn't get a checking account, even with cosigning. Any idea why?
