It needs to be fought from the foundations of it.
U.S. foreign policy is too focused on bombs and bullets instead of working with the various Arab governments to reform their own socio-economic programs in order to improve education and reduce poverty and to also reform basic human rights and religious freedoms.
as great as it would be to just sit these guys down and talk out our problems and differences, the reality of it all is this: they dont want to talk to us and they view us as the plague of humanity. they think that we're destroying society by allwoing women all the freedoms that we have, by allowing everyone the ability to speak out and have their voice heard, and by de-emphacizing religiong and morality in western culture/society. because they view us as so vile and evil, they only option for dealing with us is as dictated by their holy scripture, to wage holy war until they win.
i know liberals like to think that they really are open minded and informed of all possible angles of arguments, but in this case, you really do need to go and read the Koran from front to back. and when you decide to go do that, make sure you note the passages that mention the killing or enslavement of the infidels and about how the mission of islam is to [in effect] conquer the world.
This guy 'Gets it' It does not become any more condensed than this passage.
The only he 'Gets' is the xenophobe award for generalizing that all Muslims want to conquer the world. If that were the case, then every Muslim across the world, esp. those here in the U.S. would be trying to kill any non-Muslim. I don't seem to recall seeing any headlines in my local paper recently about infidels being struck down by the righteous Muslim.
Hmmmm....
It was not meant to be a generalization. In every religion there are people on the 'extreme' fringe.
For Example, Christianity is not about conquering the world as there is nothing in the Christian bible that promotes this philosophy. Preach the word hear the word and accept it or do not. Now, the extreme of this group would look at the teachings of the bible and justify killing doctors who perform abortions.
Islam is no different, that is why you hear the term Muslim extremists so often. However these extremist Muslims have and agenda that extremist Christians of today do not. Islam is very intolerant to non-Muslims in the eyes of these extremists. Fortunately since the separation of the Christian church from the state, that has not been a big issue with Christianity for quite some time. However, the Islam extremists of today often actively encourage people to wage Jihad for the sake of Islam along the reasons outline in the first quote.
This is a very distinct problem. It is this outright hatred towards anyone that dose not accept Islam that breed the terrorist movement against this country. You will not hear about it in your local papers because it is not an issue in the local communities of this country. Muslims enjoy the same peace and quality of life as everyone else in most places. With a notable isolated exceptions due to the rational/irrational? fears of terrorism prompting some Muslims to become singled out for the actions of a few.
I encourage everyone to look and recognize the current issues of today. 'Extreme' factions of Islam have to be addressed since there really is no separating the issue by way of saying we are 'fighting terrorist not Islam' especially when extremist with islamic ideologies have their voices are heard above rational ones and blame the unholy United States for their problems in life. It is a fight that has been brought to the United States.
Ideologies are very hard to destroy with guns and bullets. I am not pro war. Yet, if this is the road that is continued on, the only way to defeat an ideology is to make the cost of war so terrible that a side has no will left to fight with. It will require utter and absolute devastation and domination. It is something the United States has done before, but again in that case it was also preemptively attacked. I personally would hate to see it go further down that road than it already has.
If you?ll notice, I have no solution I am just outlining my personal observations on the issue.
