Are you saying if we are (we're) that bad, or if the 80's really were that bad?

Dont' forget it was his first song and they wouldn't of had much money to work with.

I don't see anything wrong with the Rick Astley video.

The other one kills cows at a hundred paces.

I've always thought that Rick Astley was another Milli Vanilli... like his voice is not his own or something.

It's not like everyone thought the video was great when it was released. Crappy video, popular song. Nothing new.

/agree with ATLien247, his voice always seemed too big for him, although i never truly suspected it wasn't him singing. I just thought he got blessed with a freakishly big voice.

True, when Gangsta Rap and "alternative" rock took over, concepts like melody and keeping a beat took a header. For a long time I thought I was insane for liking rap, then I listened to the older stuff and realized that it was rap that changed. And I've come to the conclusion that 90% of the music I listened to in the '90s was made by talentless asshats.

Yes, this is a repost. The original post declaring the awfulness of this video was back in the 1980's. I would find the link for you if the search function worked better.

The resemblance between Rick Astley and Anthony Michael Hall from the Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles ruined Rick's star potential before he had even started singing.

Can't say that I was a fan of his music, but there were some great 80's music back in those days.

If you think 80's music is funny, watch "Music And Lyrics" with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. He's basically a washed up 80's pop star ala Wham.
Funny stuff!

He actually looks a lot more normal now, if you look at this clip of him doing the same song live last year. I could see the voice coming from him there, whereas in the 80's, it just didn't seem possible. Still don't like the song though, even 20 years later.

EDIT: Added link.

Is it the video or the song you dont like? The songs frickin good! The 80's overall has much better music that the 90's and today put together.

If that's the worst video of the 80s then this has to be the gayest video. Possibly the gayest video of all time. It's pretty damned funny to watch though.

This video is credited as having destroyed his music career. Link to actual video.

1. The '80's rocked. I miss the '80's. I had some great times in the '80's (I went to high school, college and law school in the '80's (except for the last year of law school)).
2. That song is my wife's and my "song". We started dating around when that came out.
3. Rick Astley was to the '80's what Clay Aiken was to the 2000's - big voice from itty bitty body.
