Seems 50/50 based on threads I've seen. Basically you touch this certain area and short the two antennas with your hand seems to be the issue for falling reception.
Apple is currently ablating a non conductive film on antennas according to some sites who have measured capacitance between new and old.
Oh and I go way back to hatting apple with $5000 PC's when 386's were $2000 I agree I hate megalomaniac little stevie but his phone is the real deal.

According to Anand, it depends on the strength of your signal. If you have a good signal, you won't notice the attenuation. If you have a marginal signal, you drop your call/connection.
