Is it okay for me to block myspace.com?

So, I have been looking for a means to block myspace for sh!ts and giggles...but ever since I have done it my little brother (14)is PMSing saying unblock it, unblock it.. I just say no.

My little sister (16) got out of the house (finally, instead of staying up til 3-4am on myspace) and now that she finaly knows it was me that blocked it (every time she asked I gave her bs excuses like, no idea it works for me...because I would show her...secret is I blocked it to her and my brothers MAC address).

I don't use myspace, I never ever go on it, I have no reason to. I have much better things to do, neffing on ATOT while at work, or doing homework for class.

Now my sister is threatening to take some of my cr@p (very juvenile I say), but I wont. I am 20, living at home because I figured it would be cheaper to go to the community college near by instead of paying up the ass for a University...right now. I am already accepted to the U of M - Twin Cities, but I don't want to go just yet, because it is so much more. Either way she pulled the " you should be out of the house, you are 20!", but I am living here to save up money for when I do move out when I go to the U.

Am I in the right to block myspace? I don't want them wasting there d@mn lives on it, and getting molested by some pedophiles.

My mom thinks I am playing god, but then again she is psycho... whole other story that ATOT doesn't need to hear.

BTW I LOVE DD-WRT FIRMWARE :)

EDIT : added swear word filter for shortylickens...
EDIT: I added a simple poll for some feedback :).

UPDATE :

I unblocked myspace and they can use it when they please...but ever since I talked to them about it, they are much less interested in it. They also aren't staying up into the later hours of the night on it.

Obviously it was the threats that made me unblock it, my sister saying 'I am going to steal something of yours and break it' then my brother saying 'I am going to take all of your items in WoW and delete you BF2 account'.

It's still interesting how the votes turned out on here as opposed to what peopel said .. I would say 95% of the posts said I was a POS and should sh!t in my mouth yet the actual votes (you know, where you click and submit ;) ) said 61% in the favour of keeping that crap blocked and off my network.

I still want it off my network, but they are much better about using it, so it looks like the education scheme won.

I dunno, but bypassing the curse filter on AT gets you blocked from here.

EDIT:
Incidentally I knew you were from MN right away cuz we're the only ones who use that expression. ;)

Unblock it - what right do you have to do that? At their ages social networking plays a big part in their lives. As already pointed out, you are a douche

Simply blocking it isn't any fun... you should redirect any requests with that address to CNN or Wikipedia instead :)

If you're the one paying for the internet connection, then yeah go ahead and block it. If they start giving you crap, tell them to pony up something towards the monthly bill. If your parents are paying for the internet connection, what right do you have to block sites? I understand many feel Myspace is dangerous and all that, but if you take few minutes and monitor what your siblings do on it, you can protect them a lot better. Blocking the site is taking the easy way out.

Shouldn't this be, I don't know, your parents' decision and not yours?

my parents don't play the 'real' parental role, my dad is often not home until 8-10pm. and my mom is a nut case...been to the psych ward a few times(suicide, driving on the wrong side of the road , stealing from target, hanging out with my sisters friends without her, buying cigarettes for minors, and some other stupid crap I never even do)...like I said another story.

Exactly, if it's your parents and they don't care then why should you? When you have kids you can block whatever sites you want but until then stop being a pita. For the record, I think myspace is the ghey but the site in question is irrelevant.

Hehe... unblock it then modify the hosts file on their computers to direct myspace to something else. Like a pedo warning web site.

Social networking is getting off your butt and meeting people in REAL LIFE. Amazingly enough there was a time that the internet didn't exist and people *gasp* communicated through spoken word.

When I was a kid we actually went outside and played baseball and football. we rode bikes and played war. During the summer we would go to a place called The Park and play in the creek. Kids today are too lazy to even go out and make friends, they just sit on their collective asses and make "internet" friends.

Playing the parental role would be properly educating them about the dangers of MySpace and other social networks, and the implications of releasing private information on the internet.

Just admit that you get off on controlling others and be done with it.
