Clearly you've never surfed before. See surfers rub wax on the top of their boards, not to make it slippery, but to make it grippy. Trouble is, you lie on the board to paddle out and to catch waves so you tend to get a rash where your body rubs the board (since there is grippy wax all over it). Thus the invention of the rash guard...which is what she's wearing in those pics.
