got hit late last night, i was just driving straight to sam ash music store when i car trying to leave a parking lot hit me on the passenger side. ever since my hands are a little shaky while i sit at the keyboard and just in general. is this normal? i'm wondering if i should go to the doctor and get checked up, although i feel great. i'm just thankful everyone is ok.

*UPDATE*

the estimates i got for the damages come out to between $3200 and $3900. the door has to be replaced, along with labor and paint.

now $3200 and $3900 is more than the value of my car. does this mean they will total the car? just curious if anyone has ever had this happen.

It usually never hurts to get checked out by a doctor.

Glad to hear you're ok at least

My first decently bad accident I was shaky for the rest of the day. I think it's mostly mental, but if you are worried about it go to a doctor.

i was only ever in a slight fender bender, like less than 10mph and i was really shaky and nervous at the time. by the next day or even probably later that day i was fine.

are you working?

Take the day off and bill it to the insurance company of the driver who hit you.

Also, go to the doctor and get checked out.

Getting hit from side can be worse than head on.

Yes. The last accident I was in involved me as a passenger in my mom's jeep. She was a little shaken up for a day but I was fine.

*shrug*

Everyone reacts differently.

Yes.

I was coming back from a remote site one day, cruising along on the interstate doing about 70 in the fast lane because me and a line of cars was passing a slower vehicle. After we get past the slower vehicle, this purple neon that was behind me shoots around me and then squeezes in right in front of me.

I back off a bit and then the minivan who is a car ahead of that neon takes a nose dive (hard brake). Tires start squeeling, I move over into the slow lane, the neon tags the car infront of it, sending it into my lane so I dive into the emergency lane and almost hit that car.

I look in my rear view mirror and all three cars are strown about the interstate (people are already pulling over to the side to help). I went to the first gas station I could find, grabbed a mountain dew, sat down outside for a bit to calm down. I was shakey the entire trip back.

Once you get the first wreck out of the way the rest are as easy as pie.

For me, my adrenaline was pumping so hard that when I came down I crashed for a day. I was in a bad head on collision though, my door would not open as it was part way in a ditch. People started coming up to our car and trying to unbuckle my son (he was in the backseat behind the driver side) and get him out and I kept screaming for them to stop as I tried to get out. They didn't listen and all I remember was kicking the door once I got it a few inches open and getting free.

Once I got out I climbed to the roof of the car and stood up looking down at these people and said "I said back the fvck up and leave him alone.". I guess I must have looked pretty intimidating because all three of them looked up and backed away slowly not taking their eyes off of me.

My ex wife (wife at the time, well, technically we got divorced that morning and were driving back from lunch afterwards) and I went to look at the car and get her stuff from the car lot it was hauled to. The guy there asked me how the passenger side door got bent almost in half because it didn't fit with the rest of the damage. He thought a couple of fire fighters pulled it open like that. That was when I realized I kicked it in half like that. On a Ford Taurus too, not a flimsy door.

Wrecks, and the sudden surge of adrenaline can do strange things to your body, both then and afterwards.

I came out of that wreck with some spinal cord damage and torn ligaments throughout my upper back (I turned around to brace my son in the back though he was secured, instinct I guess). My ex wife had broken fingers, a cracked sternum, broken ribs and a head injury.

Thank God my son came out with a minor scratch.

definitely go to the doctors so you can have it documented. report to him/her any aches or pains you have too.

so, it was the other person's fault and the accident was reported, right?

I think it's normal on the first day. I was in 6th grade when the blade of a snow plow ripped our truck in half. I was shaky but I also passed out when my head hit the dashboard. I couldn't sleep that night because of doctor's orders but I was shaky if I remember correctly.

The next accident was much easier to deal with. Was in a cop car on a ride-along with my sister when we t-boned a car that pulled in front of us. We had the sirens on and blaring but I guess the other driver didn't see that. Totaled both vehicles. I was surprised, but airbags aren't very soft. It felt more like 90-grit sand paper and left burns all over my face. Broke my glasses but that was the worst of it.

The last accident I was in (also a passenger) wasn't too bad. I was more angry than anything else as someone pulled out in front of us. The ex (who was driving) flipped out though. She was shaking for awhile I think.

I only crashed a motorcycle once - it shook me up pretty bad. I lay flat on the road for about 5 seconds in shock, before I came to my senses and crawled/rolled over to the side of the road. The thing that bothered me most was, "If I had been on the road during rush hour traffic, some dude going 50-60mph would've never braked in time and probably run me over." For a few days, I felt shaky and nervous as hell.

Never been in a car accident.

Yeah, airbags burn like a mofo! They left a burlap like burn pattern/imprint on the side of my face.

tastes like sh1t too. I didn't know those things were coated with some kinda powder because all of a sudden it seemed smoky in the car andI thought it was coming from the engine bay. that's part of the reason I freaked so much in getting out to my son first.

to me, it sounded and smelled like a gun went off. so loud that my ears rang from sometime after.

Air bags all depend on how old they are. Some of the first generation ones are scary as hell, espically from a big car like a Cadillac.

I didn't drive for a few months after my first accident... but then again that's cause I was in high school at the time.

if you are feeling any pain go see a medical professional, adrenaline and such can prevent you from really feeling pain, etc. Otherwise just take things slow.

To this day I cannot be a passenger in a car without getting extremely anxious, and I don't want to be that way. I don't think it helps that most of the people I know are sh1tty drivers either.

I try to drive if it's two or more of us whenever possible. I dated a very liberal independant woman who thought I was being chauvinistic by always insisting on driving. I said "Look babe, you suck at driving and you're saving on gas, so enjoy the free ride.".

i don't know... let me ask around.

actually, the airbag made my sunglasses fly off which cut my ear and under my eye. other than that just airbag burns on the side of my face and a little sore the next day.

so, yeh, i was fine. my vehicle was totaled though.
