My only complaint with Comcast is they cost too much. My speed of 3mb is the same that dsl offers for $29. I really should switch, but I'm lazy.
DSL is MUCH slower and you should make sure your not really far away from the provider.
DSL is the same as cable here, 3mb. The provider for dsl is Verizon.

Not any issues in my area. A few blackouts over the last few years but always back up within 12 hours. But we should expect that just like any other provider, stuff happens.

My .02 cents

I like the speed and cost, 6 megabits for $35 a month, but the reliability and customer service are pretty poor.

i hear generally you get better upload speeds with DSL, is there any truth to it? granted, cable vs DSL is a YMMV thing, i am well aware of that. we get to split bandwidth between 3 of us in this house, and never even came close to filling up 3M download. now, upload bandwidth is a whole different story. i mean 256kb doesnt even look good on paper compared to DSL counterparts. what really bugs us the most is pings in games; my game doesnt provide any pinging tool, but i can tell its horrendously slow. my roomate plays CS and it fluctuates between <50 and >200.

lol, same here. I'm paying $60 a month because I don't have a tv. Bullsh*t if you ask me but the service is great.

Working fine for me. My connection is supposed to be 3Mbps. But recently it's been well over 4Mbps (checked it with speed tests and download rates which were 350-450Kilobyte/second). And when playing CSS and UT2K4 my ping is usually under 40, some people even think that I am cheating.
The connection sucked once or twice maybe, but other than that it was perfect for me.

I don't think I've gone an entire hour without an outage on Comcast. It could be my router (though it happened with both my similar Linksys models).

They upgraded all 3Mbps to 4Mbps connections, recently.

Comcast HSI owns when it works, which is not very often for me. I'd say my uptime is 85%, which is pretty bad. I like to call mine "Always Off" Internet. But don't take this seriously, as I said it could very well be my router which I hate to damned hell. Piece of sh!t. One more thing to take a crap between me and the Internet. The internet never crashed in-game for an hour which is pretty impressive, when I was directly plugged in to the modem.

I've been with Comcast for almost 4 years, and I've had MAYBE 5 problems since I started with 'em. I would be hard pressed to find a better broadband ISP anywhere, IMO.

No. And if your upload speeds get too high, your download speeds start to slip. Cable is better than DSL as far as that's concerned.

I don't know if this is true when you get the higher-speed DSL lines, but I think that it would hold true.

Adelphia is worse

Far, far, far worse.
We used to have comcast until our locality was bought out by Adelphia.

Comcast was like a godsend compared to Adelphia. Customer service and the techs at Adelphia are HORRIBLE!

Comcast works great for me. I think I had some minor problems one day, but other than that 5 months problem-free high speed internet

How much does Comcast charge for basic digital cable and 5mb internet?

I have Charter and I pay $52.99 for 3mb internet and $54.99 for basica digital cable, add on another $6.99 for HDTV and with taxes my bill is over $115/mo. I'm guessing that Comcast is faster and cheaper.

And with no DSL available to my house, I have other option for HSI.

honestly i cant say i am too concerned with download speeds. my downloads are capped from the source at around 50kb/s and i have no problem whatsoever with that. instead what i am intrested in is improving ping in games and reliability. come on, 8 times a day is no better than a dial-up 😱 i am definitely calling them up to give them a chance to clean up their acts, but not getting my hopes up. $19.99 for the first six months was sweet when it lasted, but now its time to move onto another ISP that offers same kinda deal.
