Is it me or does Gmail go down quite a bit?

I've noticed that quite frequently, the Gmail IMAP server stops responding and my mail programs gives me an alert. Try to log in on the website, and its down as well.

Is gmail unreliable?

mine works fine.

I think the IMAP server is just slow. i.e it takes forever to connect when I use outlook 2003.

I have this problem quite alot with Thunderbird and Gmail IMAP. Thunderbird will continuously pop up a messaging telling me that I can't log in and gives me a password prompt/box. This happens maybe two or three times a day.

However, if I login into gmail.com, I am almost always able to login.

Hmmm, well mine happens with Mail.app, but its a similar problem. It says I can't login, but it doesn't say its a password issue, just says the server isn't responding. Happens at least once a day for me.

It's a server specific thing.

I've had troubles before. They usually sort it out in about an hour max.

Where are you located?

Well, yesterday I was unable to sign in using my login and password. I know for a fact I was putting it in right, both on my BB and on my computer.

Then after about 10 minutes of being nervous....it worked again.

Third time this has happened to me within the last month.

Why?

If you use the web interface, it auto updates. If (as I am guessing) you use another way to "pull" emails, relax. Unless you have to for work due to critical response/trouble ticket deals, it really doesn't matter that much. If it's for friends/family if they need you they should have your cell # and be able to get a hold of you that way.

I do not see any reason why you have to check it every 2 mintues... You know how much time you spend checking mail?

Once every 2 minutes figure a minute checking the mail. That means 3 minutes per cycle. So 20 minutes out of every hour is spent messing with your mail. In a normal 8 hour work day (hopefully you only do at work), that means you spend 160 minutes or 2 hours 40 minutes checking mail. You realize how much neffing you can do in 2 hours 40 minutes? :)

You do realize that's not me checking, its my mail program, right? I set it to two minutes because then the email count is usually current when I do physically look at it. I'm not physically looking at it every two minutes.
