haven't really noticed it, though i think mine is only set to check every 10 minutes vs 2 minutes.

I've noticed that quite frequently, the Gmail IMAP server stops responding and my mail programs gives me an alert. Try to log in on the website, and its down as well.

Is gmail unreliable?

I have this problem quite alot with Thunderbird and Gmail IMAP. Thunderbird will continuously pop up a messaging telling me that I can't log in and gives me a password prompt/box. This happens maybe two or three times a day.

However, if I login into gmail.com, I am almost always able to login.

If Thunderbird makes an IMAP request every two minutes (or some short interval), I have no problem if it can't always connect. I don't consider my e-mail that time-critical. I only dislike it because of the dialog box that always pops up for Thunderbird (see previous post). I would just rather it determine it can't connect and simply wait for a bit and try again without telling me.

It's just you.

Edit: I do agree that sometimes IMAP authentication messes up for no reason.
