Is it legal to tip your mailman?

techs

Lifer
I know of a lot of people who tip their mail delivery person at Christmas.
I was just wondering if its legal to tip? And is it legal for the mail person to accept a tip?

I kinda doubt it, but something for XMas would seem plausible. Not money, but maybe that Fruit Cake Grandma sent you that you will never eat.

No, it's not. Homeland Security will coordinate with the local LEO's to haul you in for questioning anytime now.

That's silly. Crazy politicians that have nothing to do but come up with weird laws/guidelines. It's sad really, this world is ruled by politics... and lawyers.
It would seem obvious that the regulation against accepting tips by mail persons is they may be tempted to provide better or worse service depending on whether you tip.

I am sure there are literally thousands of corporations that prohibit their employees from accepting tips.

It's also a rule that applies to all executive branch employees. People other than mail carriers would be in a better position to help you out in exchange for a "tip."

Of course the higher up you go its no longer considered a "tip". It's just a campaign contribution.

I read "trip", and wondered why you wanted to trip your mailman. granted, seeing him fall, and all those letters going flying might be worth a chuckle.

Hence the other thread actually about tripping your mailman.
Then again if you consider cow-tipping a sport......

It should be fairly obvious why they prohibit the acceptance of gifts. It's standard fare for government employees. I would imagine though that a large variety of sub-$20 items are acceptable, the file given does not list the exemptions that they mention.
