Well, Ben Franklin WAS known for giving lonely wives the tip.Are we talking about the lonely wife type of tip?
How would it be illegal to give a tip?
No, it's not. Homeland Security will coordinate with the local LEO's to haul you in for questioning anytime now.

Try and give a cop who pulls you over a "tip"How would it be illegal to give a tip?
You're allowed to give it, they're not allowed to accept it:

Looks like it's not against the law, just against ethics guidelines... so it'd probably get them fired, not arrested.
It would seem obvious that the regulation against accepting tips by mail persons is they may be tempted to provide better or worse service depending on whether you tip. That's silly. Crazy politicians that have nothing to do but come up with weird laws/guidelines. It's sad really, this world is ruled by politics... and lawyers.

I am sure there are literally thousands of corporations that prohibit their employees from accepting tips.
Of course the higher up you go its no longer considered a "tip". It's just a campaign contribution. It's also a rule that applies to all executive branch employees. People other than mail carriers would be in a better position to help you out in exchange for a "tip."
Hence the other thread actually about tripping your mailman.I read "trip", and wondered why you wanted to trip your mailman. granted, seeing him fall, and all those letters going flying might be worth a chuckle.

Then again if you consider cow-tipping a sport......
I kinda doubt it, but something for XMas would seem plausible. Not money, but maybe that Fruit Cake Grandma sent you that you will never eat.
