GnR? christ. no way.

I can stomach Paradise City, Sweet Child 'o Mine, and Locomotive, but nothing else.

November Rain? Another one of GnR's I can handle.

I think there is just less decent pop music. There has always been a strong contingent of terrible pop music but it seems to be getting even worse lately. Seems like most of it is either ridiculous rap or awful emo music now a days.

bwahahahahaha

I must've missed the punchline. The Decemberists have released two stellar albums in the past 2 years. The Shins, while not nearly as ambitious as the aforementioned group, still write enjoyable indie pop tunes that are accessible without being meaningless.

DI.FM ftw

At the 70GB mark now.

I don't listen to the radio at all unless I leave my CD's at home, I do listen to this local station 989 the Rock (98.9FM), their morning show is so damn funny.

When I think of music, I think of Rock because it's the my favorite genre. Having said that, most popular rock nowadays is EMO-Punk(emo is short for emotional). All this means is that someone is whining about their breakup or how unfair life is. I believe this is due to the contemporary American culture, kinds have it so easy they'll find anything to bitch about. I for one hate this kind of music, I started out with Metal and went towards hardcore-punk or what some call real punk.

Rise Against is a great example. They're played on the radio now that they sing emo songs, and have lost a huge part of their original following in the process as well as half the band which refused to "sell out." It's funny that they're still trying to get their messages across over MTV now to kids that don't give a ****** about anything that doesn't involve going Hot Topic.

Bands I can stand:
Against Me!

I don't know what it is it just seems every new band or artists uses the same crap over and over and I'm finding older artists just seemed to care more about their albums.

Support local bands. You'll find you like them better and no paying "protection" $$$ to the RIAA mafia

it is just you, there are lots of good new songs. sure some are just ok and some might sound great but you get bored of them fast making them not so great, but there are songs that i love to listen to or even look forward to it and put it on my ipod.
back in the day it was the same thing, i am sure when the rolling stones or the doors came out with a new album not everyone loved ever track on the albums

I Love DI.FM. As everyone here has said, don't listen to whats on the radio (it sucks). i find new music by listening to stuff like DI.FM, looking up the new ppl i find on there, or just by talking to my friends, who have a way of finding decent music.

check out the low end of your radio band. at least here in north jersey, we've got a couple of really good small-ish stations that play great music (most of the time at least... wfmu.org is freeform. half the time you've got a great DJ playing bands I've never heard of and the other half you're just as likely to tune into some kind of experimental electonica program)

I gotta agree. I listen to the radio often and the only good "new" stuff is the old stuff I haven't heard before.

We're going backwards.

We started out as cave men banging on rocks with sticks with a simple beat and saying "ooga booga". Many years later we invented instruments, and over time, we had genius composers writing complex symphonies that could bring tears to anyone's eyes. Now, we're back to the simple beat with "singing" and melodies close to the "ooga booga" of the cave men days.

Because the music of today sucks so badly, why do you think so many young people are into Led Zeppelin, The Doors, AeroSmith, The Doobie Bros, Deep Purple, FogHat, and hell, even Elvis and Johnny Cash? Modern rock died with Kurt Cobain.

My son, who is 27 years old is listening to lots of good old school. :)
