I honestly thought it was trash. Even in its prime I didnt like the game. I dont know why, I usually like the genre but that game just sucked for me.

I could never bring myself to beat it even though I really enjoyed the graphics and general gameplay of it. The trigens ruined it for me, they were so annoying to fight.

You mean the fact that if their jump attack grazed your left ear you would lose 100 armor and 98 health?

I think it was the second level... I was strolling along a dirt road, surrounded by jungle. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a rocket landed at my feet and I died. Restart from checkpoint. I reach the same point, then it happened again. And again. Finally, on the fourth reload or so, I realize that it's coming from over the right. What I thought must've been some sort of RPG sniper in the jungle turned out to be a small gunboat out on the water, 200 yards away through dense jungle. Somehow, the gunboat knew exactly where I was standing.

One of the several reasons why FarCry's difficulty levels were out of whack. I could've forgiven that sort of stuff if they'd have included a quick save feature with the program, or had made EASY actually easy.

Edit: Man, FarCry was a beautiful-looking game, though.

farcry has some highpoints, but man, i really did get sick of it later on in the game.

I even watched one of the developers admit to it on some Crysis video I was watching.

At least, that's what I was told when I tried to download and install it today. I don't know why I felt like running through it again even though I didn't like it.

Thank you for downloading one of the promotional PC titles made available for ad-supported freeplay over the Labor Day weekend. The promotion is now closed and it is no longer possible to play the games for free.

If you are interested in further information on these titles, please visit our official website at www.ubi.com
Err meant to edit not quote.

Found this on FP, may be why I got the email:
All downloaded files which have not been activated are going to be made inactive through the ubi.com login. Previously, the ubi.com login would require a US country in order to install the game. Ubisoft will make the ubi.com login reject all entries into country. They hope to relaunch the program once we can add IP-blocking into our login process.

I used to come down on FarCry really hard back when it originally came out. It was the 3rd FPS at the time that had really huge outdoor areas and I was finding a boring trend between these games (Chrome and something else were similar).

From a technical perspective, I like the game and don't find many faults. But from a gameplay perspective, or just the feeling I get while playing it, I don't like it. Despite that, I have a lot of hope for both FC2 and Crytek because I think the technology that went into FC was just the tip of an iceberg and while games like HL2, Doom3, Prey and all the other FPS games have gone down 1 path, FC is one of the only games to survive that original burst of wide open FPS games (I suppose you could say Operation Flashpoint was another survivor, but without as much popularity).

I think I'm more interested to see what they've learned from making Farcry and how they apply it to their new game.

I just beat Far Cry on Veteran and can't believe how terrible the ending was. After all those boss battles and all the trigens, I just walk in a room and shoot Doyle, Val and I leave on a boat, CREDITS. All in all, the game was great except it got ridiculously hard at the end.

I think I beat it on the medium difficulty with some minor trouble, but as I recall I had to use god mode for the very end. From what I remember, my death count got up to 40.

I got halfway through writing up a post before I realized that the thread was two years old and I had already posted in it. :p

Was it on the dam level I referred to earlier? I played the game again last year and I think one of the patches may have introduced a bug in it, which makes the level impossible without god mode.

It wasn't terrible, and it wasn't as good as the gaming press made it out to be. Respectable above average shooter with an interesting engine.

I've been ragging on Far Cry since day 1. It won't even let me save the game? Bad game is bad.

It was innovative from the start. Amazing graphics with good game play. Not a game that will stand the test of time but it is one that will be remembered.

Save game feature was included with the game. User fail?

I enjoyed Farcry. The visuals made it incredibly immersive, the huge sandbox type maps that let you hit an objective from any angle using any tactic was excellent. I know some people disliked the trigens because they prefer a realistic game, but I definitely prefer sci fi stuff. The trigens were really fast and really dangerous and that made it exceptionally fun to me. The story was so so but the game was fun.

A note about save games: Being able to save at any time makes a game much, much easier.(Kill a guy, save, kill a guy, save, get killed, load, kill a guy, save, repeat..) If a developer doesn't want you to do that, don't decide it's a bad game just because of that. That said, Farcry lets you save at any time if you open the console and type save_game.

First time I tried it, I did not enjoy it very much; I was playing on a laptop with settings on low and I just got bored with it. A few months later I fired it up again on my PC and played it with everything maxed out on a 24" monitor and fell in love with the game. I ended up playing it through a few times (twice with god mode on so I could just take my time and mess around) again over the years and always liked it. Such a beautful game and that made it more fun for me.

Hated the multiplayer though.
