When the op posted it was evening hours in Europe and Africa so there may have been more people watching vids at home over there.

Get a video downloader addon. I DL it if it has to buffer.

I've had this issue for awhile; but only intermittently. The 'pause it so it can load but it does nothing' thing is part of it.

I remember reading that it had something to do with the way their servers queued up requests for videos. Basically, I was watching big videos that weren't popular or something...must find link...

edit: meh, I can't find what I read before. Something about their complex delivery and a video not being available on a 'local' server...but who the shit knows. I certainly wouldn't think it's on my end since slow videos stay slow and fast videos stay fast.

That makes sense, it must replicate to specific server farms when it's popular in an given area.

Try streaming something on 4k quality, that'll let you know for sure.

I've never had problems, my connection at home is too slow to do anything but 480 but at work its fine on 1080 all the time, which is a business line making me wonder if isps are messing with yt.

Youtube sucks balls now. I had an account, then they started forcing people to sign in with their gmail accounts... whatever I created a gmail account.

Now they want you to sign up for some bullcrap to get in, so I just gave up and don't bother signing in anymore at all.

What I hate is how I have a gmail account for my regular email, but I like to use a different email for my youtube account. So every time I sign into one, it signs me out of the other.

Yup, sucks balls now. Tried to watch some game play videos of games and shit was stuttering bad even at 480. I didn't mind it before when you could pause it and wait a few mins for the video to just load up, but now you can't even do that. I find myself going to more and more other sites for videos now.

I blame people that try watching every video as 1080p when a bit lower quality would work just as well in most cases. ;)

lol, every time my sister runs YouTube vids in 1080 on her 1280x800 screen it makes me laugh. It's a slow as molasses Pentium Dual-Core something too.

The most annoying thing is managing multiple Gmail accounts with Chrome when using YouTube. Why can't they just allow real multiple logins.

Is there a way to block ads from a smartphone or tablet? I haven't seen a YouTube ad on my computer in years but my phone is a different matter.

Oh and it doesn't work well on my phone either. I have to turn off HD/HQ just to be able to watch something.

Yes there soon will be with Ad Muncher.

I dunno YT has been progressive faster for me since like 2008. Even obscure 20K+ view vids loads perfectly fine at 1080p now.

That's what I do if I *really* want to watch a video. However it has gotten so slow that even downloading videos is not a practical solution any more. It takes so long to download that by the time it's finished, I've forgotten what video it was and why I wanted to watch it..

Yikes. Mine's been too slow to play some videos real-time, sometimes, but I can usually DL them at 300+KB/s, even then!

They were also wanting people to start using their real name on YouTube instead of their screen name. It was supposed to cut down on the vile comments but nobody on their needs to know my real name.

I think most of the big time online shows have moved over to Blip. Doug Walker and Channel Awesome were some of the first to ditch YouTube due to their rather lax policies on protecting fair use. They never check to see if a DMCA takedown is legitimate.

The problem with YouTube is there's no real alternative to YouTube. Blip is fine if you have an actual episodic show. It's mostly dominated by producers who have actual budgets. Vimeo is like an art house version of Blip, mostly dominated by documentaries and experimental films. YouTube is the only video site for the unwashed masses.

What I hate is how I have a gmail account for my regular email, but I like to use a different email for my youtube account. So every time I sign into one, it signs me out of the other.

Just download Thunderbird and set up your Gmail account through there. It's what I do.

I've been recently considering creating a post similar to this one. I've noticed a rapid deterioration in the ability to stream just about any quality level of video on Youtube lately. Even 240/360 videos have caused me issues at times. My internet connection is perfectly fine otherwise (24/2 cable).

I hate blip videos.

For one thing you hit pause and the video continues on for a few seconds and the sound is constantly off with the video not to mention they have very little in quality selection and many have no option at all.

Never noticed. I'll let you know as soon as I get over my annoyance of Adobe Flash crashing every 10th video.

Bump this thread. Youtube is pretty much unusable for me. I have a 14/1 connection according to speedtest.net.

No matter what I stream, 240p, 360p, 720p, 1080p, it stutters and stops.
