Is it just me or is the Republican Party in America getting more... nutty?

HAL9000

As a non-american I don't really see whats going on over there much in politics but these last couple of years I've really seen a lot of random youtube videos with these religious anti gay nuts and similar craziness coming from the Republican Party in America, normally they aren't even on my radar but recently I've noticed this crap all over the place?

Is it just me? Is it a change in America in general or is it just the Republicans? If so what made it happen?

As a non-american

You want to know is "nutty", its supporting an outdated royal family that contributes nothing of importance to society.

What I would like to see, is queen elizabeth at the local grocery store bagging groceries for minimum wage.

Mmmkay, not really what this thread was about but thanks for posting.

And that is about the response you will get from a typical American conservative.
They have no real answer for you, so they will try to dazzle you with bullshit.

Fair enough, I gather you are not one of those people so what do you think with regards to the OP?

It's you.

Things like gay marriage and other social/religious issues were MUCH more in play in elections in years past. Not so much in this one.

Someone from England wants to complain about politics in the US, while supporting a parasitic monarch?

What kind of answer did you have in mind?

US politics might suck, but British politics suck worse.

In recent past, yes. Not so much 20 or so years ago, with the exception of abortion which has been a hot issue (on and off) since the 70s.

Then you should consider starting a thread about British politics instead of crapping in this one. You do understand it is within your power to NOT read this thread, right?

OK fair enough, I guess it's just because of the internet I hear about it am surprised by it, has religion always been so involved in politics in America?

Why not go start a thread about it and I'll explain.

Excellent point. What is 'nutty'? It's a relative term. If you believe in discriminatory practices to support one inbred family, then what is 'nutty' to you may be normal to most non-racist people.

However, in this case, a lot of the GOP candidates are nutty to me as someone who does not support an inbred royal family, but they're not really more nutty than those inbreds in the UK.

You want to throw rocks at US politics, and expect no rocks to be thrown back in return?

That is not the way it works.

Candidates will do and say whatever it takes to get elected. But at least they are elected by the people, instead of being appointed by some kind of outdated birthright.

Anytime a politician opens their mouth, they are lying. Nutty or not, that is the way it works.

I'm not throwing rocks I'm asking a question.

The answer is somewhere in the middle, as are most things in life.

In general the both parties here in the us are gradually becoming more radical.
Currently the conservative radicals just have a louder voice and a stronger pull on the Republican party than the liberal radicals have on the Democrat party do though.
It is creating a really bad situation in that neither side is willing to compromise to get things done for the people. It has almost turned into a team sport where each sides "fans" simply exist to antagonize the other.

Down here in the south they used to make a regular habit of lynching gays, right after they stopped lynching blacks. Latest case I know of was about 10 years ago.

Trust me, these folks are only now discovering what the internet is. They weren't on it before and that's the simple reason you didn't come into contact with them. The world continues to 'grow smaller' as communication increases. Nothing new.

You're coming into contact with what America has been fighting and progressing against for the past century. We've come a long ways from the days of prohibition but still have a long ways to go. We can't help that you didn't know what was here before.

Actually, no. A few of the evangelical nutcases starting getting involved in the Republican party starting with Nixon but ramped up to full speed with Reagan. It's been downhill since.

Religion: Sometimes more so than others. "Religion" usually means the issues of gay rights/marriage and abortion.

It was a much bigger deal in the 2000 elections. IIRC, we even had mega-preacher types running for President and their PAC's, which seemed much stronger back then, trying to influence politics and elections .

'04 and '06 elections were much more about the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars and our budget deficit.

Now the biggest issues according to polls are the economy/jobs and budget deficits.

Note: I'm not saying your observation is wrong. You may be seeing more nut jobs on Youtube. Youtube only started in 2005 and is accessed by more and more people. I think the popularity of youtube and fact more people are using it is going to surely lead to more nut jobs using it.

I think that's a good point outsiders should understand too about American politics. The political culture is not homogeneous across the country. It varies from region to region, with each having its own local flavor. I think the religious influence in the South (the well-known Bible Belt) has probably been more prominent for a much longer time than for America as a whole.

Evidently not.

Why did you mask your BS troll with a question then? Might as well have just titled it "The Republican Party in America is getting more nutty." Quit playing games. You seem to already know the answer to your own question when you immediately tell someone who answers you they are wrong. GTFO.

Or it might have something to do with others posting in the thread and corroborating his observations. Once again, if you don't like this thread nobody is forcing you to read it. There are plenty of others you can troll.
