Can I do this on one of my unactivated (wifi connected) Android phones instead of my activated one? I'd prefer that so I don't lose the benefits of that data on the activated S9.

Sure but if it's a block based on your IP it won't fix the problem... can't hurt anything though.

This should work with Chrome (Android's default browser)

Clear all cookies
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app .
  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More. Settings.
  3. Tap Privacy and security. Clear browsing data.
  4. Choose a time range, like Last hour or All time. *(choose "all-time")
  5. Check Cookies and site data and uncheck all other items.
  6. Tap Clear data. Clear.
I just did this with one of my unactivated Android phones (LG Rebel 3 L158VL). Again, "This site can't be reached"

Did you try using a different DNS?

How do I change DNS?

Android
  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced > Private DNS.
  2. Select Private DNS provider hostname.
  3. Enter dns.google as the hostname of the DNS provider.
  4. Click Save.

Otherwise you have to eliminate the IP block possibility by trying/using cellular data.

So, why are they clocking my IP? Why can't I call their CS and ask them to unblock me... instead of arguing with them for hours!!!

Never ascribe to malevolence that which can be fully explained by stupidity?

You think the inane drone on the other end of your "support" chat/call even knows what an "IP address" is?

;)

It appears to work in tor. You could download the tor browser for pc or android and get to it from that.

Honestly, I don't know particularly why I do want to access their website or my account there. But they don't see my account, in fact their system declares that my phone number is not found! I have data right now, I paid for 360 days (why they don't do 365 I don't get). But I wanted to activate my plan at the website and couldn't (once they provided me with a confirmation number, which did take days). Could not, called CS and they manually activated me. Still, I figure access to the website and my account is a GOOD IDEA! Workarounds I guess are fine, but why should I need a workaround????

I did not. I didn't ascribe maleavolence to them, I did figure stupidity. What pissed me off is they wouldn't go get someone who knows what the fuck they're doing.

Probably your Asus router on your home internet.

If that's an AC66U that I sold you, those are now EOL, and subject to a cyber worm virus floating around. Best to replace it.

If that's not it, then it could be due to Trend Micro Internet Security. Try disabling that feature, and keeping the normal default firewall active.

I know that that Trend Micro function, keeps people from accessing www.nicehash.com and being able to crypto-mine, too.

As much as their failure to hand me over to someone with the required expertise I was frustrated by my not comprehending what I was being told and had to ask them to repeat themselves 1/2 the time, sometimes repeat again... and again...

My hearing is substandard and I figure that factors into my having problems with ESL telephone support, which is what I seem to get most of the time, doesn't matter what company it is nowadays, at least the bigger ones. Maybe they are in India. I have problems with Indian ESL people. The production director at my radio station is Indian and even in person I don't comprehend a lot of what he's saying.

Yes, I'm using an Asus router. I think I got two from you, I'm using the 2nd one. I'll check this stuff out... thank you!

@VirtualLarry ... Might it help if I look for the latest updates for that router? I haven't done anything with it in a long long time except recycling it.

He said it was "EOL" (end of life) so it's not getting anymore updates as of today but that doesn't mean you have the newest firmware. Might be worth taking a look.

This appears to be the newest version although they don't show release dates! (wtf)

ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 9.0.0.4.382.52503 (Beta)

My Galaxy S9's Redpocket plan is their 360 day $99 plan:

$8.25/Mo Red Pocket Prepaid Wireless Phone Plan+Kit:1000 Talk Unlimited Text 1GB

It's a lot more data than I use but I figure it's better than finding I don't have enough at some point. I actually failed to buy a new plan a couple weeks ago and found I had no service. They didn't email me like they did before and just texted me. I don't regularly check my texts! I bitched but it did no good. Seems they won't email you, will only text you now. I couldn't believe it. They said just buy a new plan and I can keep my number, which I did. I wondered if that is involved with my being unable to access the website. I can't get a CSR to hand me over to a network engineer, I went off on a couple of them already. I rarely yell at a CSR, but these guys have been trying my patience.
why not do the hsn 1500 talk/txt/data plan? good for a year.
multiple choices:

- $50 but the phone probably isnt as good as the s9.
- or same price ($99) and you get a modern phone. (i recommend the most expensive one on that list, Moto G Stylus 5G 6.8" )

edit:
it's cheaper because $20 off for new customers.
free ship for $75+

According to the above, the AC66U is EOL, and vulnerable to that worm with current most-recent firmware, so it's junk.

However, you might look here, and see if there's a version of Tomato that's up-to-date that would work on that hardware, that might be more immune to worms and stuff. Worth checking into, if you don't want to junk it.

Actually, looks like I replaced that Asus AC66U router with Asus RT-AC1750 router, which I also got from you. It was almost 4 years ago, i.e. January 2019.

If I missed it, who is your ISP and how is the IP assigned? Static or DHCP?

If DHCP, try rebooting your router to flush it and get a new one.

I had that happen once ... router hit a bad IP address that some sites had blocked due to abuse by someone else. Once I cleared it and got a new one, things worked fine again.

If you have a static IP, you may need to have your ISP change it.

1GB on cell isn't really all that much if you have to use if for browsing and other web things. I can go through 2GB fairly easily.

IIRC, you used to have an N66U, and I sold you an AC66U, which was branded AC1750, but was the AC66U hardware. That device with Asus' firmware on it, is now EOL and vulnerable to a cyber worm.

Either flash it with AC66U firmware from Fresh Tomato project (currently developed), or junk it and get a newer router.

This is the router that I currently recommend, that, or a Wifi 6 / AX router.

But that one can do 160Mhz channels, and is still getting updated.

It's currently $89.99 @ Newegg, on a sort-of clearance. Note that it is only good for Internet connections of 1Gbit/sec or lower. As Comcast/Xfinity and FIOS increase their internet speeds to 2Gbit/sec and higher, these routers will hit EOL effectively, if not literally. So if you are the type to subscribe to "max speed plan", these may not be for you.

The next best router, is the ROG Rapture GT-AX6000, which has both a 2.5gbe WAN and LAN port.
That one is around $300 on sale these days.

Yes, routers have gotten "fancier", and as a result, more expensive generation on generation. Of course, the WRT-54G was $159.99 when it was first released, too. (I bought a case of them for $11/ea. a while back. They do run Tomato and DD-WRT excellently, but are limited to around 36Mbit/sec.)

Ah! Well, I just spent 1/2 hour trying to sign into my Asus router firmware... CAN'T! I have notes but nothing I've tried gets me in... forgot my username/password combination!

Well, maybe I can install Tomato without that stuff? I've run Tomato before on previous routers...
