Is it just me or is Best buy really a Worst Buy.

Best buy prices are generally more expensive then other retailers it seems. They also rely on rebates a lot and advertise the after rebate price rather then the actual price. I can get the same exact thing online for cheaper. Their staff is also a bunch of H.S. teens who know very little about the technology.

I shop online for technology.....

welcome to 10 years ago

Then again BB honored my orders for the $100 Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player with a pair of nice new A3s at the same price so I've got no complaints just now. I only buy from them if the have a screaming deal on something.

most stores are staffed by a bunch of H.S teens who know very little about what they selling.

but yeah BB sucks.

"Can I help you find anything?!"
"Hi, do you need any help?"

No! Stay the fvck away or I will hurt you!

Anytime you change departments, a new HS kid asks if he can help you... So annoying.

I went there the other day because I had a question about my Sharp Aquos. I have coaxal cable and no box. I was telling him the DVD (Standard) player that I have comes though poor quality on my Aquos. He told me oh you need to get an HDMI cable ($44.00 a pop!!!!) All he knew was get an HDMI cable. First standard (non-upconvert) dvd players don't have HDMI outputs duhhhhh!!! Second If i needed one I would go on ebay and buy it for like 5 bucks with shipping. This was one of their Mongolia staff members!!!!!!!!!!!!

When they get aggresive like that I normally tell them "I will call you when I need you"

It's entirely sale specific. If you just walk in out of the blue and expect to get a good deal then you are likely to get hosed.

If they are running a competive sale on something that you want, then you will probably make out okay.

I've never walked out of one feeling cheated or scammed out of money. But that's because I'm usually going in looking to buy a specific item that that is largely discounted over the typical retail price.

Best Buy isn't holding a gun to your head and making you buy expensive/overpriced things.

You got what you deserved - you should know better than to go there and do that ...

Generally, the BB up in my area (Anchorage) is always fantastic for some reason. But every other BB I've been to down in the Lower 48, has made me want to skewer my eyes out, kick my dog and hate my mother. I can see why so many people are frustrated with them. My BB always pricematches without question (they pricematched my 8800GT TWICE!), the store is always clean, well-stocked, and with the exception of the Stink Squad the employees are actually pretty sharp and free of pesky H.S. kids.

Meanwhile, the CompUSA across the street is an absolute hellhole. It's impossible to find anything in that store. They have graphics cards in three different sections, the mice are 5 aisles from the keyboards, the TV's are on the opposite end of the store as the DVD players, etc. and THAT's where all the H.S. kids that don't work at BB, work.

Why the hell would you walk into a Best Buy for home theater troubleshooting help?

Aren't they phasing out rebates?

I think all B&Ms said they're phasing out MIRs - was supposed to be at some point this year, but obviously it isn't happening.

I learned more about hdtv in this forum (asking a question here) then I did from best buy.

The $44 dollar HDMI cables are ridiculousity at its finest. Bought a nice $5 one on Newegg and it works terrific with my upconvert dvd player. I did buy the player from Best Buy, but only because I had a gift certificate. $75 for the player wasn't bad though. Paying more than half what I paid for the player for a cable though is just insane. Even their cheapest component cables are friggin expensive.

Asking you if you need help is aggressive? I don't get people, they bitch if the sale person politely asks if they need help and they bitch if one isn't instantly available when they can't find something. I could never work retail and deal with crap like that without my head exploding.

They're just trying to do their jobs. You have a lot of anger and hate inside of you. 🙂

What's rich is when the "I'll call you when I need you" people think they can just cut in line in front of everyone else that you've since moved on to help.

"Oh it's just a quick question." Well too bad, I've now got a line of 5 people and they've all got "quick questions."

Luckily I'm in a setup where I do fairly well in retail while going to school.

To be black or look black and be asked "can I help you" on a reg basis has a different meaning. Esp. to be stalked by store employees on a reg basis as you look at merchandise. Almost like your going to stuff a fucking 42" plasma under your shirt.

Dateline did a little test. Had a black guy and a white guy walk into various stores with hidden cameras. Redneck Shack (radio) was the worst. A white guy kept watching the black guy almost like he was going to seal something.

"Worst" Buy ... wow, first time I've EVER heard that in my entire life. Did you come up with that name all by yourself?

I know, how about next we call Microsoft "Micro$oft". Wow, aren't we clever!
Oooh .... Have you ever been to CompUSSR? That's sure original

/me gouges out eyes.
