I just wait until they have a good deal--they often do--and go straight for it. No need to chit chat with the majority of their employees.
I've yet to be screwed-over by them, so I'm pretty neutral on the BB thing.

No! Stay the fvck away or I will hurt you!

Anytime you change departments, a new HS kid asks if he can help you... So annoying.

When they get aggresive like that I normally tell them "I will call you when I need you"

Asking you if you need help is aggressive? I don't get people, they bitch if the sale person politely asks if they need help and they bitch if one isn't instantly available when they can't find something. I could never work retail and deal with crap like that without my head exploding.

To be black or look black and be asked "can I help you" on a reg basis has a different meaning. Esp. to be stalked by store employees on a reg basis as you look at merchandise. Almost like your going to stuff a fucking 42" plasma under your shirt.

Dateline did a little test. Had a black guy and a white guy walk into various stores with hidden cameras. Redneck Shack (radio) was the worst. A white guy kept watching the black guy almost like he was going to seal something.

wow..

wtf, that was kindof out of left field...

And to respond to that completely off topic argument: There is nothing wrong with profiling. Anyone wearing ghetto clothing (black, white, asian, etc) is going to be looked at more closely because the likelyhood of them stealing (especially in certain neighborhoods) is higher.

I figured what the hell, the thread sucked anyway, might as well take it in a more interesting direction.

Compared to online, there is no way best buy can win. However, I think they stack up favorably with Circuit City, Compusa, etc.

I think all B&Ms said they're phasing out MIRs - was supposed to be at some point this year, but obviously it isn't happening.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, as I haven't seen a rebate deal at Best Buy now in quite awhile. All of their stuff is after instant savings. Occasionally you'll see something that has a manufacturers rebate that isn't store specific that they'll advertise, but they don't do mail-in rebates on their own anymore.

I shop online for technology.....

oh, i dunno, i just used a $10 coupon off a video game there. BestBuy is usually a good buy for me.

They've actually kind of stopped relying on MIR. The only stores that still do that is CUSA, CC and Office Depot. OM and Best Buy, for the most part, no longer do MIR. I know OM is 100% no MIR and BB may be 100% or not. I haven't seen them advertising MIRs in my area for a while.

Almost all deals online are better than going to Best Buy as far as computers and technology are concerned.

I usually just build my computer from parts that I get from
www.newegg.com/

They also have some pretty good deals on games and stuff like that also.

BestBuy clearances can be very nice.

The only shopping I do there is on loss leaders.

Disagree. Best Buy sales prices are consistently the same or better than the competition in my experience. More expensive than online retailers, though. If you want shady tactics, check out an American TV. They will post ads like "All TVs on sale plus no interest for 24 months" and then when you go in they'll say crap like "the no interest is only for select TVs."

Best Buy employees are ignorant or misinformed much of the time. The other day, a guy was trying to recommend a DLP to me, but when I said that model didn't make use LED lighting, he said it did. I told him to show me where it says that and he couldn't find it. He said he'd check his computer, but he never came back. Douche.

I'm glad they're phasing out the rebates though. I won't buy anything that includes a rebate.

See my thread.....

You can't generalize that much if there are a handful of decent Best Buy's, especially when so many people there put in a lot of effort to make life easier for the customers (despite the ridiculous actions of corporate headquarters and management).

Friday I bought a 46" aquos from Best Buy after standing in line at abc warehouse and being 10th in line and not getting one. Circuit City was sold out too. Bought it at Best Buy for $1399. Went around back to pick it up in my car and they said they didnt have it in stock. Would ship it to my house on Sunday. I asked them to check other stores for the same tv and they said it was so busy that day that the stock would probably not reflect the actual number of tvs in stock. They said if I found the tv at another store they would cancel my order over the phone.

I drove 30 miles to another best buy and found the tv. Bought it, dragged it to my car. Called 1st best buy where it was out of stock to cancel my order. They said they would have a manager call me back.

I did not receive a call back.

Saturday I decided to stop by and cancel my order before it gets delivered and I end up stuck with 2 tvs. I go to the store and wait 45 mins for a manager. He says the tv has already shipped and I MUST accept delivery and then call the store for them to pick it up. Manager says that is all they can do.

I complain some more and they have end up cancelling the order and getting my money back.

What a pain in the butt.
