From the OP's signature, he possesses not just one, but 2 GeForce 7800GTX KO's and other goodies.. seems like you are pretty well off to me.

Are you single? Married? Own your own home?

I am single and dont own a home as they cost 600k and up in DC. :(
BTW the computer is company owned.

And if you just have to stay in DC then buy one of these.

Omg dude Id be shot overnight living there!

:)

Ahh but if the things continue as you think they will that property will eventually be worth a whole lot more. Risk and reward. ;)

Actually.. isn't that the area that Washington wants to build the new baseball stadium?

No, the new stadium is going up in SW DC close to the Navy Yard, that area is across the Anacostia River in SE DC. SW, SE, NE, and NW for those not familar with DC's peculiarities refer to quadrants of the city in relation to the US Capitol.

Ah yes, the rich OWE you something because they worked harder than you, took bigger risks, made better choices, got better educated and are making more money than you.

Secondly, the government is NOT taxing the crap out of you. The bad ?rich? people pay the vast majority of taxes. The top 5% of earners in the country pay well over half of all income taxes collected. If they are cheating the government out of tax dollars they sure aren?t doing a very good job of it.

Third, if you are making the same wages as you did in the 80?s then you are seriously lacking something. Be it motivation, skill, education or you simply don?t have a good work ethic. If you work hard and apply yourself then you will advance. If you don?t then you will not advance. This is the land of opportunity not the land of entitlement.

?Distribution of wealth? is simply absurd. What makes you think that you are entitled to another persons wealth?

Exactly! Down with inheritance!

How dare people decide what they do with their own money, dammit! Who needs freedom anyhow?

If you want to live in the city you'll have to pay the price. I commute to and from DC but at least my house was under $300k.

There is a reason why those are so cheap. If you live anywhere around the vicinity of Wash. D.C. you know that southeast DC is about one of the worst places in the country. I live about 1/2 hour N.W. of DC and it seems like whenever I turn on the local news and hear something about how somebody was killed or shot or drug busts or whatever. . about 90% of the time the map zooms in on some area in southeast DC. Live there if you have a deathwish, sure. Otherwise, stay the fvck away.

I see the middle class everywhere I look. I think a lot of people have a warped view about what middle class is. I remember people in high school bitching that they were "dirt poor lower class" because they had to share a bedroom with their brother and only had one car for the family. It's sickening.

How about you start a business that supplies overpriced crap to the super rich?

Capitalism works if you use it.

Risk outweighs reward IMO here. You stand a good chance of never living to see that property value increase if you move to SE DC.

People were saying the same thing 10 years ago about the "riot corridor" north of 14th & T NW. That area had stores and buildings burned out and boarded up since the 1968 riots and drug dealers on every corner. Now look at what the prices are doing in that area.

Regardless of what some rich brats think, no one is entitled to inheritance. A person is able to make the decision of what happens with their money after they die by means of a will.

Well when the rich start having their houses burn down and no one to answer a medical call the rest of us peaons will just have another thing to laugh at them.

By the way I was a fireman in New York for 8 years and a fireman again now where I live so elect me and you will have a fireman in the whitehouse.

we live in one of the most free and capitalistic societies on the planet.

You are only where you are in life because of the decisions you made leading up to this point. If you want to change your future you must start acting now.

What exactly is the middle class anyway?

In my opinion, the middle class isn't dying; it's being forgotten! Look at politicians, they either care about big business or express woes for the less fortunate or minorities.

You left out the most important problem they have with finding people to work for the fire dept: DC residency requirements.

From the Fire and Rescue website:
All applicants must submit required supporting documentation at the time of application. These documents demonstrate compliance with many of the minimum applicant requirements for the Fire/EMS Cadet Program, such as educational status, US citizenship, age of the applicant, DC residency, and possession of a valid DC driver?s license or learner?s permit. Applicants must also provide complete household income information because many of the positions are funded through grant monies with specific financial eligibility requirements. A limited number of applications who do not meet DOES financial eligibility requirements will be selected for the program.

That's because Politicians are part of the "Super Rich".

It's estimated it will cost half a billion dollars for the next person to BUY the Presidency in 2008.

That is what the OP posted.

The rich in here immediately think they are being attacked as if they were "super rich" because they will do the same thing as the "super rich" in that they will offshore their earning and pay ZERO taxes.

Hell they already probably are paying nothing towards their fair share.

Gee, Dave... If the "rich" are paying "zero taxes" how is it that the top 5% pay 57.13% of all income taxes paid?

Hell, the top 1% pay 36.89% of all income taxes paid.

So stop the "rich don't pay taxes" myth. It only makes you look like a bigger fool than everyone already knows you are.

You speak of "fair share" when in reality, it is YOU who do not pay their fair share. The top earners in this country pay FAR more than their fair share.

That's a lie. The super rich have obviously bought out the people who came up with those statistics. Damn you Super Rich *pumps fist in the air*

Anyway, I kind of agree with the OP. Just because it sucks that I make over 100k a year and still can't afford to buy a decent house in CA. Damn you California *pumps fist in the air*
