Is it hard to push a 2800+ to 3200+ speeds?

No, not very hard. I had a 2500+ to 3000+ speeds. I could get it to 3200+ speeds but my memory was holding me back and Windows would crap out after a while. I never bothered trying to raise volts or use better memory and just stuck with the overclock to 3000+.

Bartons are still decent chips. They are beginning to show their age, especially with the latest games that use a lot of CPU (Source games like CS:S mostly) but for general use, there's really not much reason to get something better today unless you're serious about video encoding or gaming. For general use, they're great.

Very true, up until a few weeks ago my Barton 2500+ @ 3200+ was my main gaming rig (then I built a opteron 165 machine). It still games VERY strong with a 6800GT @ Ultra speeds. I played COD 2, FEAR, BF2, and many other newer games on it, most at 1680x1050 max detail (no aa or af).

To the OP, just play with the FSB and edge it upwards until your system is unstable. As long as you have DDR 400 getting a 333 core Barton up to 2.2ghz is a breeze.

Shouldn't be hard (with any luck). My quick calc indicates you just need to push the FSB to 176mhz to reach 2.2ghz.

Good Luck with it.

EDIT: Make sure to run your ram insynch. I.e., a 1:1 divider etc

I have another question. I only have the stock AMD heatsink/fan to cool this 2800. I attempted to set the FSB to 175 but I was unable to get the computer to POST. I have Crucial Ballistix PC3200 memory. Would the CPU be the bottleneck here?

Means you'll have to supply a bit more voltage eh... The RAM is perfectly fine... ;) BTW can't you select a lower multiplier (11x) and raise the FSB to 200MHz, to the exact same specs of a 3200+?

LOL the latter worked! Stock voltage, stock cooler, it's recognized as a 3200+ in BIOS and in CPU-Z! Thanks man! This is awesome!

Yeah, the 200FSB with lower multi is the way to do it. :D This is when the Bartons start to show their true colors.

LOL I spoke to soon. It wasn't stable in the least. I was priming it and it just rebooted itself. I guess I could use a better heatsink/fan. What do you guys think?

No, he's gotta OCCT it... ;) BTW the big feat here was that the multiplier could be adjusted... If it's not stable enough, a voltage adjustment is easily made...

Up the voltage a bit... What are your temps?

Idle??? Hmm it could be a bug, but those temps are near deadly... :-S Get yourself a decent HSF...

I think it might be really dusty. I'm going to buy the SI97A this weekend and get a bigger 92mm fan. I'll keep you guys posted!
