No, it's not hard.

I would NOT skimp on the crimper (as others have suggested), if you're going to be doing any quantity a quality crimper makes all the difference in the world.

DO NOT EVER SKIMP ON THE CRIMPER! EVER. Ideal Ratchet Telemaster 30-696 is the only acceptable tool.

With one of those and a cable tester, it's not terribly difficult. My old el-cheapo crimper, I was usually about 1:10. Now I'm almost 100%. $30 on fleabay

crimping is simple simple...
i printed off a schematic off the net and have memorized it since then... takes ~5 mins/end of a standard cable.
solid core cable is easier to crimp too BTW.

It's easy. The crimper I've used for work is by AMP. I've never used a "cheap" one so I don't know how they compare.

I used to think I took way too long. I'm about 5 minutes per end too. I realized quickly that it's not worth my time for short cables. We pay less then a dollar for 10' cables, which basically means I'd have to be working at minimum wage and materials would have to be free to be worth it.
