Alright I am not yet completely discouraged from doing it or encouraged... but there are a few things I should clear up.
First off, we WOULD NOT be getting cable tv (I hate tv, I don't remember the last time I watched it at home), a landline phone (since I already got a cell phone we could just both pay on it). I would kind of miss broadband, since I doubt we could afford that, but if nothing else I do believe we can get dial-up internet through the college for only $10/mo.
And, I don't go to the movies or anything like that. The last movie I saw was Orange County! I don't buy cds much either. Just the fact that my friends and I would have a place to hang out at and do stuff is what is fun to me.
As long as the apartment had a refrig, stove, etc... then that would be enough. Between the two of house we could bring a long a ton of old stuff from our houses like a futon, chairs, dishes, etc... all free. I'm pretty sure both our parents would continue to pay insurances. Don't say we're spoiled. Like I could ever afford car insurance now anyway, they've always paid it.
As for college, I have my first two years of college EASILY payed for with scholarships and there will be enough left for part of my 3rd year at a university, and I would still be eligble for tons more. I didn't even try much through HS and graduated with a 3.99. Both of us got a bunch in the bank and I save some every now and then still. We both have like $600+ in graduation money that I am not spending on anything now cause I don't have anything to buy. You guys say to save this or that, but what for? Why not enjoy life as it is right now. Waiting a year might be a good idea though.
